U.S. Generals are raising the alarm

Our military has leaned strongly Republican. By law, active military are constrained from political action. Most retired officers are highly politically aware but strive to be non-partisan, and are often not aligned with either party. The fact that so many top-ranked former Generals and Admirals have gone on record to speak out against Donald Trump underscores the gravity of the threat he represents to our democracy and, ultimately, what it means to be American. Here are warnings from a number of these retired, highly respected military commanders.

The swamp is deep. No one complained when Obama remade our military leadership in his image. It should be noted that each of these generals are now about ready to retire and are prob going to be getting very high paid jobs in the military-industrial complex. Why should we believe them? Trump is trying to fight the swamp and they are fighting back...

If it is not possible to extend the Strategic offensive arms reduction treaty, then "it's okay" and the United States will modernize its nuclear arsenal without restrictions."
This was stated by special representative Billingsley.

It seems that the US has found portal to another, spare Earth.

Try negotiations again after Trump is booted. And put some effort into it the next time.

Trump was the only president courageous enough since Eisenhower to question the military industrial complex, which now is akin to attacking gods of this country. If he loses the election, this will be at the top of the list as to why.

Biden is who they want because Biden will take us to war with Syria and has openly condemned the President reducing troops anywhere in the world. A vote for Biden is a vote for endless and more wars. Counter productive, pointless and absurdly profitable wars.

Ask Tulsi Gabbard about the military-industrial complex. The Dems assassinated her because she was anti-war and their masters in the military-industrial complex demanded it.

Amazing the stuff you tell yourself to keep believing trump. Yeah, why should we believe these men after all they only all served their country. I guess their country isn't your country?

tbh, does it really take a military person to see how corrupt our current president is? all you need is half a brain.

I don't agree with this entire sentiment but yes, few people make it that deep into the military without being complicit in military-industrial complex corruption.

Republicans and Trump enablers do not care.

As I've said before, I knew trump owned a casino the day he came down the escalator to announce his candidacy, that's all I knew about trump. Every opinion I now hold of him comes from watching and listening to him, nothing else and my opinion of him is he's a prolific lying con man.

Well, we have different mindsets among those the military ... those included.
We have some that Obama liked because they were inclined to support his social justice/politically correct agenda. Trump doesn't.
And we have those who are the more aggressive global warrior interventionist types. Trump isn't.

I would wager your salary that you, being a Lefty, never cared for any of them in that group until they came out against Trump.

Trump has publicly bemoaned “endless wars” but that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing increases in the DOD budget, providing material support for Saudi Arabia’s war with Yemen in the form of arms sales, threatening war with Iran, or getting the US up to its eyeballs in Syria. He hasn’t done anything to dismantle the complex - quite the opposite.

September 14, 2020 - 235 senior military leaders endorsed President Donald J. Trump's re-election

"The 2020 election affords the American people an urgently needed opportunity to affirm their devotion to the Constitution of the United States and to the American way of life. As senior leaders of America’s military, we took an oath to defend the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic. At present, our country is now confronted with enemies here and abroad, as well as a once in a century pandemic. As retired military officers, we believe that Donald J. Trump has been tested as few other presidents have and is the proven leader to confront these dangers."

Then why is he pushing for more ships if he is questioning the military industrial complex? Increasing military spending on a lot of things is not questioning the military industrial complex.

He added a whole new military department, wants new nuclear weapons, and has said multiple times we need more ships.

Do you just make up chit to have something to post?

Explain to me why the most articulate person in the Democratic Party was treated as a pariah during the primary. If Tulsi had gotten the nomination, the election would already be over, she would have rolled over Trump without even trying. Unfortunately, going against the military-industrial complex is the kiss of death for a US politician. She came off as a very intelligent member of the military who was against the regime change wars we have been getting into. No way was the establishment going to back her, too much money at risk.

Each of 'em is retired. Each made his statement during his retirement.

Some of 'em such as McCaffrey are going on 20 years retired. Active duty military personnel don't speak like this without consequence, flag officers especially and in particular. Trump is already talking about punishing the retired flag officers who criticize him, which the Potus can try to do and that no Potus ever tries or considers, and which with Trump is a swarm of 'em. Making America Russia Instead, he is.

It is well known btw Obama favored Marines while Trump favors American war criminals and hates American war heroes. In contrast, under Obama as Potus / CnC, Marine Corps had six 4-star generals for the first time since WW 2.

Biden will be the first Democratic Party Potus to win the active duty military vote since LBJ in '64 after Goldwater blurbed about letting generals decide on using tactical nuclear weapons in Vietnam. Goldwater's nutbag notion went nowhere fast of course, same as happened to his Republican Party nomination for Potus.

The 4 flag officers retired who are referenced in the piece that follows are:

*ADM Mike Mullin 17th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the recognized living authority in the armed forces on civil-military relations;
*GEN James Mattis former SecDef and commander CENTCOM
*ADM James Stavirdis former Nato commander
*GEN John Allen former commander, ISAF Afghanistan

That's two Navy and two Marines btw.

The ‘Khakistocracy’ Tries to Save America

This could be the beginning of the change of American democracy not to illiberalism, but to enlightenment.

June 5, 2020

In the past few days, 16 stars-worth of retired flag officers have taken to the pages of prominent websites to voice their opposition to President Donald J. Trump’s conduct in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and subsequent protests in cities across America. Together they constitute an unprecedented chorus of criticism of a sitting president by a group who used to be the highest-ranking members of the U.S. military.

The sequence of events that compelled all four—a de facto intellectual “khakistocracy”—to put pen to paper in rapid succession started on June 1 with a peaceful protest a block away from the White House. That protest was violently dispersed by D.C. police on horseback, Arlington County Police in full riot garb wielding batons and shields, Secret Service and Park Police officers, and a phalanx of National Guardsmen along H Street chucking smoke grenades and “flash-bangs” into marchers caught totally off-guard by the rapid shift in law enforcement tactics. The spectacle was too much for the four retired officers—not just Trump jeopardizing the safety of law-abiding Americans in service of a stunt, but also the apparent willingness of the Pentagon’s two ranking officials, civilian and uniformed, to take part in the charade.

I believe this post complements the post of the OP.

Indeed Trump ordered elements of the 101st Airborne to Washington DC for those protests and while these elite troops were not used, a colonel of the 101st said in a live interview with a local tv station that the troops were saying to their officers, "We don't belong here." Shortly afterward the elements were returned to their base in KY by SecDef Esper.

Any active duty troops that have to deal for real with a unique national emergency crisis in Washington will come from the continental USA Northern Command at Peterson AFB in Colorado, and from the Joint Force Headquarters- National Capital Region, ie, all services stationed in Washington DC and area. So I reiterate, while the armed forces would never act to destroy democracy, it is guaranteed they will act under civilian leadership to restore a destroyed democracy.

So what is Trump doing to "question" the "military industrial complex"? Oh, that's right...brag about how much money he got for the military in the budget...

"The American military has been completely rebuilt under my administration at a cost of $2.5 trillion," Trump said in the Jan. 8 address. "U.S. armed forces are stronger than ever before."

September 14, 2020 - 235 senior military leaders endorsed President Donald J. Trump's re-election

Admiral Steve Abbot retired said today SecDef Mike Esper the West Point grad needs to explain to the nation how the armed forces will respond to a Potus/CnC who says he will not lead or participate in a peaceful transition of power in the Nov. 3rd election.

Abbot said the armed forces, their chiefs and commanders need to act now to preclude their having to step into national chaos on election day and in its expected aftermath. Abbot who commanded the Sixth Fleet is the son, grandson, brother and father of Naval Academy graduates.

The four former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff referenced below and who criticized Trump include GEN Colin Powell of Army, ADM Mike Mullin of Navy, GEN Martin Dempsey of Army, AF GEN Richard Myers. Immediate past vice chairman of JCS AF GEN Paul Selva who retired last year joined the endorsement of Biden.

More Than 200 Retired Generals, Admirals Endorse Biden

Some of the officers who signed the letter supporting Biden had retired only in the past few years

In recent months, an astonishing number of retired American military leaders have stepped up in to denounce and rebuke Donald Trump -- to a degree without modern precedent. The list includes four former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs, each of whom has publicly slammed the incumbent president ahead of his re-election bid.

Today, however, the story took a step further. NBC News reported that more than 200 retired generals and admirals have collectively endorsed Joe Biden's candidacy. He joins a surprisingly long list. NBC News' report added that the new group of signatories features "22 retired four-star military officers, among them Navy Adm. Samuel Locklear, who oversaw all U.S. forces in the Pacific from 2012 to 2015, and Adm. Harry Ulrich, who commanded U.S. naval forces in Europe during President George W. Bush's administration. Some of the officers who signed the letter supporting Biden had retired only in the past few years, including Gardner Howe, a Navy SEAL leader who also retired last year; and retired Adm. Paul Zukunft, who oversaw the Coast Guard until 2018.

The same National Security Leaders for Biden list includes nearly 300 former national security officials and diplomats from the civilian ranks, including a Reagan-appointed CIA director (William Webster) and five former Defense secretaries (William Perry, William Cohen, Chuck Hagel, Leon Panetta, and Ash Carter), two of whom served as Republican U.S. senators. "The next president will inherit a nation -- and a world -- in turmoil," their joint public statement reads. "The current President has demonstrated he is not equal to the enormous responsibilities of his office; he cannot rise to meet challenges large or small. Thanks to his disdainful attitude and his failures, our allies no longer trust or respect us, and our enemies no longer fear us. Climate change continues unabated, as does North Korea's nuclear program.

Abbot said of his decision to sign the letter that he was troubled initially by Trump's comments about the late Sen. John McCain in 2016. "To hear someone say that John McCain was a loser and they don't like people who become prisoners, I just knew I was going to have trouble going forward with somebody who held those views," he said.
