WASHINGTON -- Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon, commander of Multinational Division-North and the 25th Infantry Brigade in Iraq, told reporters Friday morning that his troops have seized another cache of Iranian-made weapons and have "got momentum" in the fight against the insurgents.

Speaking from Baghdad via live video-conference to reporters at the Pentagon, Mixon said he has beefed up his forces in the Diyala province northeast of Baghdad in recent months and is now asking for more units to take counter-insurgency operations beyond the provincial capital, Baquba.

From the above story:
Earlier in the week, at least 150 Shiite pilgrims, many traveling by foot, were killed by insurgents in a variety of attacks as they converged on Karbala.

Violence in Iraq - The Battle for Baghdad - New York Times

The above link is quite interesting actually. It's an interactive map that shows by day the reported violence occurring in Baghdad.

How can anyone trust any war news coming spewed out by our government? Haven't they lost all creditability due to the multitude of lies that they've pushed onto us?

Why does it bother you so much that things might be going a little better in Iraq? Are you that much of a Bush hater and partisan?

Doubt it bothers anyone other than OBL and his people, if things went better in Iraq. Problem is it aint getting better.. at best its the same old same old. And no amount of spin or propoganda can change the facts that 50 to 100 people die each day to attacks, and thats the ones we hear about. On top of that there are kiddnappings, murders and other acts of "terror" that happen in a civil war... oh I forgot, its not "offically a civil war"..

Did you even take time to read what the General said my liberal friend or are you just spewing your usual left wing rhetoric?

I think what he's actually saying is that you made a premise and were proven wrong. Why is it that you have not addressed this?

That is not the subject of this thread.........I think he is upset that maybe we are making progress in Iraq as are a lot of Bush haters......

Show a place where he claimed to be upset that US troops are perhaps making progress in Iraq. And it is the subject of the thread. You made a claim. The claim's credibility was questioned. You challenged this. The lack of credibility was exposed. You have not addressed this. If the US is making gains in Iraq, I am very happy for that, and certainly think it's positive. But when the first line of your OP is '"Bad news for the "Bush Haters", the partisan nature and agenda of this thread becomes clear. I hope you care more about the success and well-being of our troops then whether it 'looks good' for conservatives.

Nah, I've just heard this same crap from you time after time after time. And yet things never seem to improve in Iraq. How many more times are you going to make this same thread before you open your eyes to reality?

Navy Pride: "Violence was down in Baghdad today, compared to last week. It looks like things are finally improving in Iraq. Bad news for you Bush haters! I'm glad that we finally turned the corner thanks to Bush's brilliance...now let's just hope Hillary doesn't screw things up starting tomorrow."

Well said CC. NP if you just admit youve been owned on that point we can all move on.

Here is what he said, not a ringing endorsement of the troops and their success....:

Look NP, when you start a thread discussing the gains of American troops with the statement "Bad news for the "Bush Haters", you demean the actions of the very troops that you are trying to defend. You make them nothing more then pawns in this stupid partisan game that many are playing. I don't know about you, but I have a whole lot more respect for the brave men and women that put their lives on the line every day in our military. Your purpose for bringing this up, as Kandahar pointed out, is partisan. You have been shown evidence of this. I would hope you would accept that you have been exposed and move on. Discussing how our troops are doing in Iraq is too important to be wasted on partisan pettiness.

So, NP, what do you actually think of the troop situation in Iraq?

Takes a giant set of balls to accuse another Forum member of "being upset that the US is winning" Navy Pride.

You owe Kandy an apology for suggesting that he is a traitor. It is one notch above traitor to falsely accuse someone else of being one, especially knowing that it's a lie. That makes you one tiny notch above traitor, or what some might call a weasel or a troll.

It appears in your world that anyone who does lick clean Bush's smelly butt is a traitor to you. That stinks, so to speak....

Did you see that Navy Pride "THANKED YOU" for this post? :rofl

Yeah. Confused the heck outa me. Guess he hit 'Thanks' when he meant to hit 'Quote'. :2razz:
No way! He's perfect and could not have made such a mistake. :doh

Did you have a chance to look at the link to the interactive map of Baghdad from the NY Times that I posted earlier in this thread? It is quite revealing as to the daily violence that our troops and the good people of Baghdad must cope with every single day, and it is not getting better.

Honestly, IMHO, I think it cannot get better until we leave. We're targets, we stir the pot, we create another reason to kill. If we leave the warring parties will be forced to deal with each other or perish and that to me is a much greater motivator than our trying to create a military solution when no such solution actually exists.

It's like the novel "CATCH-22". Have you ever read it?

No, but since I'm heading out, momentarily, I'll look at it later.

Yes. Catch-22 is a favorite phrase of mine.
