U.S. FDA to bring outside experts to review COVID-19 vaccines - Reuters

(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will organize meetings with an independent group of experts to review data of coronavirus vaccine candidates and advise the agency, FDA commissioner Stephen Hahn said on Wednesday.

"The meetings will reinforce the transparency of the process as FDA reviews data from trials now underway," Hahn said in a post on Twitter. (bit.ly/2YYBHI0)

The statement comes after U.S. President Donald Trump last month accused members, without evidence, of a so-called “deep state” working within the FDA of complicating efforts to test COVID-19 vaccines in order to delay results until after the Nov. 3 presidential election.

The FDA said last week it will hold a meeting of its advisory committee to address the general development of COVID-19 vaccines on Oct. 22, and have additional meetings as applications for coronavirus vaccines are submitted.

There is virtually no chance an acceptable vaccine will be launched before Election Day & Trump knows it.

Questioning the FDA protocols is reasonable,, but that questioning will not be laid to rest no matter the actions of the FDA. Accept or reject anything... someone will be unhappy, complaining, and
accusing others or wrong doing....
smoke and mirror political bs. is all this is....
or .. business as usual in the bureaucratic quagmire of the federal gov't.

You got to figure there is a boatload of taxpayer money sitting there waiting for the winner to scoop up.

This is a good thing. Development of a vaccine has become a race - at a breathtaking speed - with a lot of competition. In the medical world, "fast" and "safe" are a delicate balance. I think it's a great idea to have a transparent review process with both FDA and external review. A mistake with the vaccine could be worse than the disease.

We've come a long way since then, but some of the mistakes with the Polio vaccine (also developed in a rush) were devastating. They actually gave Polio and other diseases to people..

I wonder how much these pharma's are going to charge the government per dose?

That's a good question. Of course, being able to end the economic shutdown would be worth a lot.

One concern I have is that even if they develop a vaccine, it could be less like a shot for measles and more like the flu shot. (An annual shot, that provides limited protection). There are already 3 strains of Covid-19

I am not an anti vacc’er, but the developing story is that if you delete the co morbid deaths, the death rate is quite low. IMO, everything in an election year is suspect.
