BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraq isn't engulfed in a civil war, and there are signs of hope outside strife-torn Baghdad, the new leader of U.S. Central Command says.

But the country needs "more pervasive security" -- as well as a more efficient and responsive government -- before the United States starts withdrawing troops, says Adm. William J. Fallon, whose command is based at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, and covers the Middle East, central Asia and eastern Africa.
 
Of course there is no civil war. It's just a bunch of radical militants not wanting American influence in their country. The radicals are not the voice of the Iraqi population.

Those that call this a civil war either don't know the meaning of a "civil war" or are just regurgitating what they heard on a "news" report that was trying to earn revenue and ratings.
 

So now the Bush administration has a new mouthpiece to paint a pretty picture of the war and you automatically believe what he says without question? Denial anyone? I wonder how long it will take before he's just as pessimistic as John Abizaid was about the war.

I wasn't aware I stated who I did and did not agree with in congress in regards to Iraq. Please let me know which of my NavyPride-declared "friends" you are referring to and I shall tell you my opinion on their stance.

I'm not bad mouthing the military. I'm bad mouthing the current administration's pitiful attempts to try and deceive people into believing that everything is going wonderfully over there. Then people like you see these stories and believe them without question. You really should be getting paid for the amount of campaigning you do.

I'm badmouthing him because it seems incredibly convenient for the Bush Administration for him to be putting a positive spin on this war. I'm guessing he was appointed by the Bush Administration for this very purpose. I'm sorry if I have a bit of skepticism for our government. I would much rather have that then a mindless drone who lives with blinders on and believes everything that is said without question.

I said Iraq is not in a civil war, which you seem to agree with. What debate is there?

I again apologize for not playing along with partisan bickering when we agree on the subject of this thread.
 

Good God, dude. It's got nothing to do with pleasing an administration. The civil "unrest" in select locations is not and never was a civil "war." This description is very inaccurate and it only served to sell papers and to undermine the current administration.

The situation in Iraq has been a mess, but it doesn't have to be urged into horrible avenues because we choose to mislabel the occurrences. Even our intelligencia has avoided this mis-charicterization, but buckled to media pressure and only briefly mentioned that some aspects could resemble a civil war (because assuming failure is safer than predicting success).
