Two months after top Pentagon officials vowed to get to the bottom of whether the Russian government*bribed the Taliban to kill American service members, the commander of troops in the region says a detailed review of all available intelligence has not been able to corroborate the existence of such a program.

U.S. commander: Intel still hasn'''t established Russia paid Taliban '''bounties''' to kill U.S. troops

So no info could be found to back up this already deeply questionable story. Glad to hear it.

It, honestly, made no sense to me. I didn’t see what Russia would have to gain from it and the Taliban doesn’t need to be paid to want to kill Americans.

They get to kill Americans. We are their enemy. They want to create destabilization. And yeah, the Taliban likes money and killing Americans. What’s the confusion over that piece?

So Pompeo humiliated himself actually warning Russia to knock it off?

He really is an incompetent grifter.

When enough faux outrage is generated by the press, there's little politicians can do to save face.

The problem comes in with regards to motivation. They've been fighting us for 20 years. Why would they all of a sudden need to be paid to kill a hated enemy?

Yeah! Since when we need any proof, when we talking about USSR... sorry, Russia. Aren't we educated since childhood, that russian are not really human at all?

The US command has regretfully acknowledged the lack of evidence of russian collusion with the Taliban... So once again we will have to do everything ourselves for the russians.

Because there are peace negotiation ongoing and Russia is motivated to stall peace in Afghanistan to keep the US back on their heels. Russia wants to be sure the Taliban keeps killing and doesn't take a break due to peace negotiation.

Trump probably heard something along those lines from idiot Limbaugh and passed on the stupid. It's like the White House's own special virus...

They see Americans and assorted allied forces (correctly), as belligerent invaders and do what any invaded nation does; resists. Yes, they aren't especially pleasant people to do business with, but it's their country and we are uninvited guests. In WW2 there was Vichy France, technically at 'peace' and sympathising with Nazi Germany, and there was the rest of occupied France, fighting the invaders. The similarities with Afghanistan are pretty obvious.

It was known when the story broke that the evidence was not conclusive but was of a "medium" level of confidence. There is still the "high" level of confidence that comes before "certainty". Obama was condemned for not divulging his knowledge of Russian interference in the 2016 election until after the election when the reason for not doing so was the IS had not yet concluded the interference reached the level of “certainty”.

That literally makes no sense. You don't need Russian involvement to continue the fighting. Peace negotiations are taking place between the Afghan government and the Taliban, not the US.

Like Iran!

I have no problem believing Pompeo actually didn’t say anything to anyone except to one of his drivers to go pick up his wife’s strap on from Mike Pence’s wife.

Cause the Russians were paying per head. This ain’t complicated. And the onus in this scenario isn’t on the Taliban. It’s on our government’s failure to protect those troops that Trump enjoys using as a prop.

If the Trump admin is so weak that its SoS is attacking Russia over a story it feels is fake, then they are unfit for the roles they have.

When you guys say stuff like this, the intention is to *defend* the admin, yeah? Not make it seem staffed with a bunch of losers?

The U.S. has been trying to make peace with the Taliban.

It certainly helps though, doesn't it?

Peace negotiations are taking place between the Afghan government and the Taliban, not the US.

We are supporting the Afghan government.

Btw, good to see you Mr. Invisible (no pun intended).

Didn't America pay Afghans to kill Russians and give them lots of toys to do it with?
