OUR businesses suffer because of basic economics. All those cheap shoes and clothes made in China, Vietnam, Bangla Des, etc. put OUR clothing industry almost out of business.

My grandmother was a NYC garment worker. She and other member's of my family lost their jobs due to cheap goods made in overseas sweatshops.

So, while corporate profits might suffer, American workers have already suffered the loss of jobs because of those cheaper goods made in unsafe, non-regulated, sweatshop labor factories which allow more profits because costs to make them are cheaper.

Our population is growing, but jobs seem to be shrinking due in great part to this economic dynamic. So who is hurting who in the long run?

And, it's still cheaper to buy from foreign countries, tariffs included, than paying American labor. At least, it sure is in the automotive industry. This was easily foreseeable - case in point, I've been telling you guys this is exactly what would happen for months now.

So, either you guys take Mexican / Indian / Chinese wages, replace your workforce with robotics, or pay significantly more for "Made in USA" goods. Or, most likely, a combination of all three. Or get rid of the tariffs, and get the same thing for what you used to pay, and at least keep people working in assembly.

Our businesses suffer because they are losing business. They have to pay more for the goods the need to make their products but either cannot charge more for the products given that they will lose business, or make less on each good they sell. Either way, it impacts their sales and/or profit.

This complaint has been voiced repeatedly over the past few months, especially among our farmers.

Like it or not, the American public does not have a lot of spending money and therefore they want to buy and will buy the cheapest products available. When that is no longer an option and they have to pay more, they will cut back on their purchases.

Hmm... you don't think that added tax revenue is capable of helping to achieve any lofty goals? The idea of tariffs is to offset production cost differences between (among?) nations. If nation A has lower labor costs and regulatory compliance costs than nation B then there is little doubt that products from nation A will be less expensive than the competing products of nation B. Once all producers in nation B cease to produce a given product then nation A is free to raise their price (and profit) since there is no longer any competition. Should nation B start to make those products again then nation A temporarily drops their price until they can drive any nation B competition out of business.

Bloomberg should understand the law of supply and demand. They should be educating the public on the big picture and not be part of the propaganda spin.

If China passes the tariff onto the US consumer, demand will go down. It is one thing to pay $1 for a Chinese trinket and another to pay $2 for it. The quality is not worth it at $2. China may make windfall, but will soon they will need to lower prices and/or increase quality, to increase demand to maximize revenues.

The higher prices makes it more worthwhile for China to manufacture in the US, and for US businesses to get back into manufacturing. The US businesses could not compete at $1, but at $2, this is another story. There will be a few years delay as factories are built. The long term impact is more American Jobs, competition, better quality, innovation and lowering prices.

All Trump needs to do next is bring all that overseas cash, in tax shelters, back to the USA. This is $trillions. There will be plenty of money to borrow and invest, and all types of new investment opportunities in manufacturing and raw materials. It has to be done in sequence with overseas money brought back as prices spike,

The problem is the inflated value of the USDollar. The USA used that for economic dominance, but the worm has turned and is biting its' own tail. We can't devalue the USDollar without increasing our debt obligations and we are probably the World's largest debtor Nation. Central Banking control and collusion can't save us now because alternative Banking Power structures have gained in assets, trading alternatives, and alliances. To attempt to correct this problem by lowering labor rates will only benefit the Elite, per usual. The next Big economic crash may right the ship, or not. China passes nothing onto the US consumer other than the original price they sold the items to the US buyer for. The US buyer passes the cost down the line, and it is either absorbed by profits or passed on to the consumer. Cheap Chinese goods probably have a very tight margin on profits so the cost will likely be the consumers.

It is one thing to pay $1 for a Chinese trinket and another to pay $2 for it. The quality is not worth it at $2.

There are very few 100%+ tariffs. Most of them are 5 - 25%. So the $1 might be $1.05 - $1.25. Is the Chinese good enough to pay that? Depends...are there good alternatives relatively available to the US consumer?

China may make windfall, but will soon they will need to lower prices and/or increase quality, to increase demand to maximize revenues.

At a $1 each, I'm not sure quality is ever going to be the issue.
