GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States called on Russia on Monday to destroy a new cruise missile system which it said was a “direct and continuing violation” of the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, and accused Moscow of destabilizing global security.

Robert Wood, U.S. disarmament ambassador, said the system was capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads and represented a “potent and direct threat to Europe and Asia” as it had a range of 500 to 1,500 kilometers (310-620 miles).

I thought the USA already pulled out of this treaty so they could put medium range missiles adjacent to Russian borders.

As always, you thought wrong.

As usual, there is discrepancy between the US and Russia on what the weapon is and where it falls in terms of active treaty.

But that is just window dressing, we have no indication that Trump will do much to push the issue and even less indication that the UN or NATO will do much about it either.

Everyone wanted to ensure we renewed the cold war with Russia, and it is back full tilt.

It's going to be even greater for the MIC: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, etc. Someone has to build the sabers we rattle.

I am sure there are some happy execs out there with all these stories showing conditions deteriorating between Russia and... well... whoever.

Dave - our friend RV is again being economical with the truth.

The US withdrawal from INF takes effect from Feb 2 at the expiry of the 60 day notice period.
