The United States is planning to move ahead with construction of a $10 million military training base in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, the site of a bloody uprising in June against the new government that reportedly left more than 300 dead.

You know, I am surprised that we have not learned from history.....

Noting his own visit to Osh last month, Blake said there continues to be human rights abuse of the Uzbeks. "I think it's very important that the government [in Bishkek] itself be aware of these and that they take steps to stop them," he told the Carnegie Endowment audience.

Sound familiar? Think about the Shah of Iran, who we also propped up. We told him and his cohorts the same thing, to no avail, yet we still supported that dictator. The result was the Mullahs taking over, thrusting Iran back into the Middle Ages of Islamic extremism, and creating a very dangerous enemy to boot.

Ron Paul has already told us what happens when we meddle in other nations, propping up murderous dictators. The term is called "blowback". As long as we support a nation that suppresses it's people, any reasonable person can expect another revolution down the road, due to this meddling, and it is also entirely reasonable to assume that yet another nation will embrace Islamic extremism as a result. Rather than bring another nation into the "civilized world", we will have pushed them away into anarchy and, eventually, dictatorial theocracy, merely replacing one mad dictator with another, who is even more dangerous.

When will we ever learn?
