U.K. Heat Live Updates: Britain’s New Record High Doesn’t Last for Long

Hours after breaking a record, Britain recorded a temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius (104.4 Fahrenheit). If confirmed, it would be the highest temperature ever in the United Kingdom — but the day was far from over.
=========
Record breaking temperatures all over the world, including the American West and South, and conservative posters here still insist that climate change is a hoax an/or man has nothing to do with it.

Climate and weather are not the same. As long as there has been weather we have seen spikes. The left extremist are so funny to watch. Void of common sense but full of "feelings".

Are weather and climate related in any way? If the climate is warming due to AGW, should we expect more extreme heat weather events?

Lets see what the scientists have to say

Climate scientists have been sounding the warning bell for years about how climate change is affecting us. Here's what some of them have said today.

“40C at Heathrow would have been extremely unlikely or virtually impossible without human-caused climate change. It’s now an event that shouldn’t have surprised anyone. While still rare, 40C is now a reality of British summers," says Dr Friederike Otto, senior lecturer in climate science at Imperial College London.

It is in our hands whether every future heatwave will continue to be extremely deadly and disruptive, she adds.

The temperature record in the UK has been not just broken but "absolutely obliterated," says Prof Hannah Cloke, natural hazards researcher at the University of Reading.

Britain is not used to these conditions, she says, explaining that our whole way of life - our cities and infrastructure - were built for a different kind of climate.

And Dr Sam Fankhauser, professor of climate economics at Oxford University says: “Today’s record-breaking heat is a stark reminder of the impacts of climate change and the urgent need to decrease global carbon emissions and stabilise our climate."

I know who I'm going to go with.

Record highs and lows are pretty common. We haven't been tracking temperature for very long in the grand scheme of things.

Does anyone remember all the headlines about records being broken during the summer of 2021?
2021 was hot as hell, NASA confirms
In late June and early July, the Pacific Northwestern US and Western Canada struggled with record-smashing temperatures that buckled roads and melted power cables. In the desert further south, California’s Death Valley reached a blazing 130 degrees Fahrenheit (54.4 degrees Celsius) in July, potentially breaking the world record for the hottest temperature ever recorded on the planet — for the second year in a row.

Across the Atlantic, Europe experienced sweltering heat, too. A reading of 119.8 degrees Fahrenheit (48.8 degrees Celsius) in Sicily might have broken the European record for maximum temperature. (The World Meteorological Organization is still working to vet those records.) All told, July 2021 was the hottest month humans have ever recorded, according to NOAA.
Yet the annual average temperature recorded by NASA's GISS who Gavin Schmidt quoted in the article is director of,
shows that 2021 had an average temperature that was much cooler than 2020.
What this should tell us, is that heat waves, and changes in the average temperature, are not that closely linked.
Things like land use change and aerosol clearing may have a lot more to do with heat waves than CO2.

Do you know the difference? Here, in a nutshell- climate is statistics about weather, basically.
You're welcome.

A couple hundred klicks east of me is the town of Lytton, often the hottest spot in Canada. Last June they set a new record with 50° C. Six months later they set a new local record with -25° C.
Id say that represents climate change, not just odd weather.

I'm not sure where in the UK you are, but hope you've fared alright during the heat wave.

Head in the sand conservatives are just plain sad to watch. The only reason cons are claiming nothing is happening with the climate is the left thinks there is.

As our planet continues to warm, record heat events such as these are becoming more common.

Something is happening with the climate, an it well could be from Human activity, but also not have much to do with CO2.
We have radically altered our planet, turned forest and prairie into plowed fields, and paved over millions of acres,
changing how rain is absorbed.

I've mentioned before how there are notable changes to rain events over the past few years, where the amount of rain and intensity of the storms are pretty bad. Yesterday we had serious flooding throughout the general NYC area. This from yesterday in the northern NJ area.

Haven't found a way yet to control China that as I posted the link to generates 27% of the worlds pollution more than double the U.S. You keep beating that dead horse until the U.S. economy is totally destroyed and your precious liberal ideology runs this country into the ground like Venezuela or Argentina

I would say it definitely has something to do with human activity. if nothing else we have altered the planet significantly. The idea that this has not contributed to the climate change and extreme weather is ridiculous.

So we and the rest of the world should do nothing. smart plan.

So you tell me how you are going to control China and its 1.6 billion people? the uneducated ignorant plan is putting the U.S. economy in danger by doing something that allows China to take over. Do you people ever consider the consequences of doing what you think is right when proven wrong?

In general the narrative is that CO2 is to blame, but we have done several things that are all contributors.
The idea that is we trim our CO2 emissions, this will all go away, is frankly silly.
We live in a very complex system, and have changed some major components in that system.
We use too much fresh water, and then slow the recharging of the aquifers because we send the rainwater
to drainage systems. One need only stand in a parking lot on a hot day to tell the difference compared
to standing in a park with grass.

You don't think that climate change is going to destroy the economy? Bury your head in the sand some more. Look at the water levels in lake Mead right now. That is going to seriously **** up the western states economy very soon.
Not being able to control china is a nice cop out, but not a smart plan for our future.

And Biden wants to increase oil production.

What a ****er.

Can ya'll send some of that torrential rainfall down to Austin please?

So we and the rest of the world should do nothing. smart plan.
Not nothing, but we should identify the correct problem at least.
We do not emit CO2 because we want to, but because of our demand for energy.
We have an energy problem not a CO2 problem, and fossil fuels cannot solve the problem.

What exactly is “proven wrong”?

All good points. We have ****ed our topsoil to the point of nearly no return. That alone could have fixed the CO2 issue. In the race for ease and convince we have killed our future.

I am not so pessimistic, we do need to address both energy and fresh water, those problems are far more pressing
than any issues that may be related to CO2.
