Dresden mayor 'to lobby against building of Bomber Command memorial’ - Telegraph

A diplomatic row could flare up now some insufferably opinionated, self-righteous pig of a mayoress is poking her uppity nose into what doesn't concern her.

Similar to the embarassing scenes when left wing louts clashed with police at the 1994 'Bomber' Harris statue unveiling, the sacrifices made to keep the German bully in check during the war are being compromised for political point-scoring.

Accusations are now being flung around like so much cheap confetti that Britain is guilty of war crimes, thus any memorial to the brave airmen 'guilty' of giving Jerry a pasting are null. I can't believe the cheek and hypocrisy, especially as the Germans themselves were smug in the tales of destruction of all those foreign cities at the time!

They always have to have their way, then play victim when things go against them. Indeed, had the Germans WON the war, don't you reckon they'd do nothing BUT go on about the conflict?!

It was a tragedy so so many lives were lost and so much damage caused in the Dresden raid. But the truth is that had Bomber Command not fought the war it did then Hitler would have held Europe in bondage for a lot longer than he did. The Germans had to reap the whirlwind in the name of justice.

If the Germans want to make a big deal out of war crimes then we should do nothing but screen the most patriotic, full-on, comprehensive and unremitting series of war documentaries we've ever seen during the Battle of Britain anniversary week.

Let's see the full show on the death camps, mass murder also at sea, abuses of slave workers and all the other Nazi wrongs which the Germans didn't seem to care too much about until the very moment the war was lost. Then we'll see what's what about war crimes.

They say 'Don't mention ze var', unless it's convenient for them. So let's simply reply in kind and knock them off their sqaure-headed high horses!

If that was the truth then no wonder we were so unscrupulous and naughty, eh Mayoress of Dresden?!

No? Then shut up and get back to your sausages and leave us in peace!

That probably also goes a long way to explain it. After all, the Nazis were the legitimate governing party of Germany at one time, making life safer and more affluent for a great number of Germans. Even today, there are Germans who see the 'benign' Hitler of the pre-war years and the 'corrupt' Hitler of World War 2 who gave the go-ahead for atrocities such as the mass-murders.

This is an insult to Germans only if they still identify with the Nazis.

They should be grateful the good guys won, and perhaps contribute to the statue of these brave men also.

Indeed so.

Germans have made an industry out of guilt-tripping the sons for the sins of the fathers. Harry Enfield even parodied it in a running sketch on his old show.

Establishment Germans, like loathsome liberals anywhere, prefer displays of self-loathing and esteeem-sapping constant apology, rather than proud monuments to servicemen who did whatever it took to bring down the dictatorship and its empire.
