I've been coming to this forum for two weeks now. Just thought I'd give my two cents.

I have never seen an internet forum dominated by such a small few. There are a handful of people that must sit at their computers 24/7 and post on this forum. Mostly they bicker and attack one another. Snide remarks, put-downs and persoanl attacks rule the boards. It really takes the fun out of debating politics.

danarea, aps, kidrocks, champs, hipster and navy pride should all have maximum post limits...so they can log off, catch their breath and cool off. None of this is going to make TIME magazine, folks. Chill out. Try getting along. It's debate, not a place to show partisan hatred toward one another.

If you see examples of personal attacks, feel free to click the "report post" link on the lower left hand corner of the post, and the mods will check to see if there's a violation.

Personally, I think that it's a good thing that there is a sizeable core contingent that is frequently here to offer debate, although I do agree that it would be nice to expand that group to bring some more insight out. However, I don't see any reason why other people CAN'T have that same impact on the forum, as I don't feel that there's a sense of exclusion for those who don't post as often.

Some of the best posters on here (Ludahai, Iremon, Korimyr, Simon, Tashah immediately pop to mind) are either infrequent posters or have a few areas where they devote most of their attention. Are they "worse posters" or respected any less because they don't insert them into every single debate? Far from it, they are some of the best because of the way they comport themselves, their detachment from the personal aspects of the issues, and their willingness to both educate and learn.

Basically, I'm just pointing out that it takes all types. If we can all get along without killing each other, we should be alright.:2wave:

I couldn't agree more. Those who insert themselves into every thread, only to put others down for their differing beliefs, bring the entire board down. That's why I bring up the idea of daily post maximums. This would force danarea and aps and champs and navy pride, etc. to be selective and careful about how they choose to post....and whether or not to waste their posts on attacking others.

You completely missed the point of my post.

I have already posted most of this in another thread, which I hope you read, and I am offering you an olive branch, if you wish to accept it. However, this thread should go under the "he who smelt it dealt it" category:

The rest of what I have to say is on that same thread, which I hope you read in the spirit for which it was intended, but you need to get off your high horse, and realize that everyone else does not have a monopoly on insults - You, yourself, are also capable of them, and are also up to your neck in them. Here is my continuation from the other thread:

You see, you make accusations, and you are also doing it yourself, under the guise of "correcting the behavior of others". Actually, I dont think you mean to, but that is what you are doing, and doing it in a very condescending way, which people dont appreciate. IMHO, outside of that, you are a valuable asset to this board.

Now I am not bringing all this up just to bust your chops a little. You are a good Democrat basher, and you also debate pretty good most of the time. Its only when you get into the mode where you are attempting to tell other people how they should behave that I have any beef at all with you. After the election, I am going to need people on my side when I go after the Democrats, and the way I see it, you will probably make a good team mate. :)

My suggestion would be this - Dont worry about he said / she said, and who is insulting whom. Leave that to the mods, whose job that happens to be. If you see an inappropriate post, just report it, and let the mods do what mods do. No need to get involved and muddy yourself like you have been doing. Outside of that, my only other suggestion is to get down and kick some Democrat a$$. Deal? :)

Good job of collecting all my posts, danrea. You'll notice they all address the issue of people attacking one another. The only one of my posts that actually attacks is where I quoted aps: "grow up and go to confession." Unfortunately, I didn't put it in quotes, but those were her words.

My comments were to better the forum. But if my suggestions hit too close to home and leave you unsettled, I'll drop it.

You all can beat each others brains in. Looks like you enjoy it.

it also depends on a lot on where you post. if you post in the breaking news forum a lot, it tends to be more heated and there's more partisan bickering. when you visit the forums that are focused on a particular topic, there is less of that, though its far from gone.

If your goal is to be a respected and consistent poster, an excellent rule of thumb is to debate the topic and not the poster.

I also encourage you to use the Report Post feature if you feel comments are inappropriate or violate DP rules. A Mod will take a look and make a determination. Be advised that most Mod actions are usually invisible, so do not assume that a Reported Post resulted in no action being taken.

Make no mistake, what someone says is indeed germane to the issue of civility.

Sir, when you do notice posters here baiting, insulting and flaming the other posters, I invite you to report them to the "Report a Prick" thread as well.

However, it only applies to the first insulting post made on any given thread started after 10/12/06 3:41 PM CST. I cannot blame other posters for responding in kind to someone who attacks them personally so this game thread is intended to bring attention to the posters here at DP who practice flaming and baiting. Therefore only the poster who "draws first blood" on any particular thread can qualify for a "Prick Point."

This thread can be found here: http://www.debatepolitics.com/us-partisan-politics-political-platforms/14360-report-prick.html?highlight=prick+point

I agree. For someone who claims he is trying to clean up the forum, he is one of the worst offenders. Like I said - He who smelt it dealt it. LOL.

It is not my place to clean up a forum. I just asked why it seems to be so hateful here?

Politics can be - and often is - contentious. To imagine otherwise is unrealistic. Debate style spans the spectrum from dull and mundane to spirited and passionate. However, all posts at Debate Politics are expected to be crafted with civility and adhere to the standards set forth in our Forum Rules.

Much like in the real world, political fault lines also exist within this community. Thus, there are bound to be disagreements and frictions. Debate can be a healthy and rewarding experiance, as long as common civility and proper decorum are observed.

I encourage you to participate with civil vim and vigor. If you feel that a particular post contains inappropriate content, please click the triangular Report Post icon located in the bottom-left corner of every post. The Moderator Team does indeed investigate every reported post. The Moderator Team cannot possibly read every post that is generated, which is why the Report Post feature is an invaluable asset to fair and balanced moderation.
