I grew up in a household where the school lunch was the only meal that I had that day
I'm sorry you had that hard start (though it sounds like you've tried to use it well). Where I've interacted with kids in that situation (as an adult I had to skip some meals starting out, but, the kid(s) was/were always fed), usually my experience is that it's a household problem - older kids are left in charge of younger kids, but don't bother to make them food, parents prioritize other purchases, etc. But, respectfully, school lunches are often famously unhealthy. If eating unhealthy is the same as starving, how did you survive, given that you should clearly have starved to death as a child?
People who are
actually starving - like the starvation that leads to mass death, which we have seen from Communist nations, particularly when they attempt to nationalize the food industry, which leads to the same predictable results that we see whenever any industry is nationalized - would love to give their kids a hot dog. Or a school lunch pizza. When we respond to actual mass-hunger events, like famine, we typically don't focus on shipping them oranges and pecans - we focus on things we can provide quickly and cheaply and en masse to put calories into people to allow them to survive, like wheat and rice.
During a long stretch I went weekends without a meal because I wasn't in school. I know what it is to go days without food which is why I have empathy for others Everyone's situations and circumstances are different. The ****ing problem with conservatives is that they see everything in black and white, this or that, one way of the other. They are incapable of nuance. Their other problem is that the suffer from an inability to feel sympathy or empathy for others. Unless it's happening to them personally, it's not happening.

Suffice to say, respectfully, what you've laid out here... is an extremely low-empathy statement
Regardless, however, the point remains - capitalism provides an amazing abundance, including for it's poor, that hasn't been matched by any other system to date in the history of the human species. If you
actually want to combat famine and starvation.... the best system for doing so.... is Capitalism.
