Hold the presses, this seems to be far from a done deal.

Two key obstacles emerged Tuesday night to the passage of President Obama's tax cut compromise with the GOP. Except this time they come from the right: The influential anti-tax group Club for Growth and conservative kingmaker Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) both came out in opposition to the agreement, threatening the breadth of Republican support for the plan.

I really, really hope this is true and DeMint and his idiot acolytes scuttle this deal. Leave it to them to not be satisfied with getting 99% of what they want.

chances are big, since the GOP policy since day one has been.. do not give the black socialist Muslim in the white house any victory what so ever... hence the party of NO has emerged.

Everytime you bring race into it, you make all Libbos look sillier and sillier.

Everytime you bring race into it, you make all Libbos look sillier and sillier.

Not to mention it's like explaining balancing a checkbook to a 5-year-old when this stuff comes up.

ever notice the only ones who bring race into it... are the liberals 'claiming' we're bringing race into it?

Well, I guess we can't blame them; it's really the only argument they have left for their failed agenda.

I can't recall I have ever brought race into it here personally, and of course you guys don't. Denying that the majority of Americans however that do not like Obama--and keep in mind you are going to try and argue against a guy that lives in Kentucky--do not bring his race up though is lying to yourselves. Anyways, I have nothing else to contribute other than Republicans forgot what the word compromise means (they think it means give it all) and Obama forgot what it means (he must think it means take in the ass).

Nice effort on the part of the right wing True Believers to derail the thread with the decaying race garbage. But lets get it back on track please.

The right wingers get 99% of what they want - 100% really on the tax extensions, but even that is not enough. How do you get more than 100%.

This story is the perfect illustration of the right wing of the GOP. Hopeless - clueless - and as anti-American people as they come.

The 'right wingers' did not bring race into this thread.. PeterEU did, and he is listed as a Centerist. Unless you're calling him a 'right winger'. Facts are your freind... learn to use them.

Ever hear that old saying "what goes around comes around"? Barry and the Dims cut the Republicans out of all legislation for the past 2 years..... that was the dims idea of compromise.... now it's coming back to butt **** them, as it should.

The Republicans screwed the pooch big time by giving in to the 13 month unemployment extension and should be ashamed of themselves (anyone that can't find a job in 6 months isn't looking. (and yes, I live in a rural area of a State with higher than average unemployment and it only took me 2 weeks to find 2 jobs, so I know what I'm talking about)..... seems like the dims aren't the only ones that didn't get the message in November.

You totally miss the point. Imagine that. the thread is about a subject of conservative defections from the tax deal. fine. But then several conservative posters - three in a row - attempt to focus in on the issue of racism simply because one poster humorously included it in his post. Its the conservative cause celebre to attack any such charge of racism and make the issue about false charges of racism. The conservative goal is to make even bringing up the word RACISM as such a huge pain in the butt that it is then taken off the table.

Those facts are indeed my friend

Excuse me, but who died and made you 'the decider' as to what posts we can respond to? YOU stated righties brought race into the thread, which was either an error, or a lie, on your part. I know which one I vote for.

If you don't like the fact someone repsonds to a post you think maybe should be ignored, too freaking bad. Get over your self.

If DeMint and the Club for Growth actually have the congressional numbers of support that they think they do, Obama only has one choice. Scrap the whole thing. Demint wants permanent Bush tax cuts. Let them expire. The unemployed will just have to find a way to make money.

You go and respond to anything you want - I am not trying to stop you. If you do not recognize sarcasm and humor when it appears before you like in the previous post from Peter, then all is indeed lost. I think that what you conservatives were doing was two things
1) trying to take the focus off the thread topic
2) employing the strategy to ridicule any mention of race or racism even if it is made in jest as part of your larger effort to get the entire issue off the table for all time

btw - Nancy Pelosi just said she will NOT bring the tax cut bill to the floor without changes that please the members of the Democratic caucus.

Does anyone know (or have an estimate) on how much the Bush tax cuts will cost for only the wealthiest 2 per cent of wage earners over the next 2-years?

DeMint started the recession.

Hold that thought, DeMint just overtook Obama on my approval chart.

The Republicans will fight like caged animals to cut taxes for the wealthy but they raise the middle finger to policemen and firefighters who need help in the 911 attacks

This truly sickens me and makes me ashamed that such a political party even exists in this country. I bet Abe Lincoln would have the same reaction.

Yeah... mean old nasty republicans
H.R. 847: James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 - Legislative Digest - GOP.gov
Some Members may be concerned about several issues:

1. H.R. 847 creates a new entitlement program.

2. H.R. 847 is paid for with a tax increase on companies located in the United States that are employing American workers.

3. H.R. 847 is not means tested. An amendment to preclude millionaires from accessing the new health entitlement created by Title I was defeated during the markup in Energy and Commerce Committee.

4. NIOSH does not have expertise in administering a health care payment program. The current program is a block-grant program, and under H.R. 847, NIOSH will negotiate contracts and approve treatment protocols.

5. H.R. 847 increases hospital reimbursement rates to 140 percent of Medicare reimbursement rates on average for New York City hospitals while ObamaCare cuts $150 billion in payments to hospitals around the country.

6. H.R. 847 does not reward hospitals and providers for improving health care. They will be reimbursed based on each service they perform, which will encourage overutilization and increase health care spending.

7. Currently, several programs receive federal funding for medical monitoring and treatment programs. Those programs include: Fire Department of New York WTC Medical Monitoring Program, New York/New Jersey WTC Consortium, WTC Health Registry, WTC Federal Responder Screening Program, Project COPE, and POPPA (Police Organization Providing Peer Assistance) program.

8. Limited oversight fails to ensure taxpayer funds are spent properly and effectively. Government health care programs, such as Medicare, have a significant amount of fraud.

9. H.R. 847 gives too much discretion in the unreviewable authority of the Special Master.

10. H.R. 847 permits claimants to seek compensation through the VCF even if they have settled their lawsuits against the $1 billion taxpayer-funded World Trade Center Captive Insurance Company.

11. H.R. 847 includes protections for trial lawyers, including the ability to receive taxpayer-funded compensation for work not directly related to recovery from the VCF. In addition, attorneys who have been compensation under another settlement will have access to settlement funds under the reopened VCF.

12. 12. H.R. 847 extends the geographic scope of the original September 11 Fund and gives the Special Master discretion to extend it even farther.

13. H.R. 847 caps the VCF at $8.4 billion, which is an invitation and a guarantee to spend $8.4 billion.

All those wonderful things in 847, and the GOP is holding it up? BASTARDS!

Shameful, disgraceful and beyond any rational excuse. Turning their backs on the brave men and women who rushed into those burning buildings on 911. Its just beyond any petty political excuse. Each GOP member who voted NO should have to go to the home of those brave men and women and explain their political excuses and see what reaction they get.

Shame on them.

The fact that you think this is what really happened means our country is in huge trouble.

Also the part where you think your personal anecdotal experience is somehow representative of a country of hundreds of millions of people.
