Two Koreas hold talks on reunion of families separated by 1950s war

North and South Korea have begun talks on organizing a reunion of families separated by the Korean War.

Red Cross officials from the two sides are now meeting at a border village to confirm the date and the venue of the event. The talks follow an agreement reached two weeks ago to end a military standoff and reduce cross-border tensions. Millions of people were separated during the Korean War in the early 1950s. The reunion program began after a historic North-South summit in 2000. It was initially supposed to be held annually, but given the strained relations between the two Koreas, the meeting was held just once over the past five years.
