Two death row executions delayed to give killers time to recover from Covid

That makes no sense. Capital punishment does not take away the human rights of the people being executed. They had due process and a fair trial.

And I am not really sure anyone could make the argument that life in prison, spending most of it in a 10x10 cell is more humane than capital punishment

They had to wait or the death cert would have to say he died of Covid, instead of by the hand of the state

Spain, like other members of the European Union, cannot execute a prisoner.

I said people being killed was a fact of life, then you claimed that people were only killed in the US.... I still find it hard to believe that nobody is ever killed in Spain

Not by the state as a punishment.

not really. How much money is being spent on Lisa Montgomery today or tomorrow or next week or next month?
I have no idea about how much money took its way until the plunge, but maths gained from surveys on all of these cases suggests that also in her case it was more than imprisoning her for life would have cost.

We aren't governed by the "European convention on human rights" anymore than we are governed by Iranian mullahs.

If you people in Europe like to just allow murderers to get off with a slap on the wrist, that is you choice, not ours.
Life behind bars is not a slap on the wrist. We are governed by humane and civilized law.

Euro ******s can go sit and spin. They prefer coddling criminals over punishing them.
The choice is not between coddling inmates and killing them; the loss of freedom and incarceration is our way.

Life behind bars is still LIVING for someone who with evil and wanton disregard took the innocent lives or other people. Allowing a person who committed first degree murder to live out their lives in a cell is NOT applying proper balance to justice. They should lose their lives as a testimony to how precious life is--- the lives of the innocents they stole. Otherwise that is NOT punishment, and it is not justice.

Seems a firing squad would fix this problem

Death row inmates have to be executed in the method proscribed. And until that execution, the state is responsible for their health.

I remember one guy whom on his execution date, they found him hanging in his cell when they came to escort him to the death penalty chamber. They cut him down, rushed him to the hospital and saved his life. They then took him back to the prison and executed him.

By the way, I've turned against capital punishment given the possibility (however remote) of an innocent person being executed.

So I advocate life in prison in solitary confinement. Naked.

It is hypocritical to prove you believe life is precious by killing prisoners. The Taliban with whom the USA has a treaty do the same.

Why is life in a cage more humane than the death penalty?

Innocent life is precious.

Murderous scum isn't.

This is the problem with this subject: pro death penalty folks are all anger and revenge. This is entirely an emotional issue for them.

Why is life in a cage more humane than the death penalty?

Because they’re not being murdered in cold blood.

I haven’t seen anyone argue that there shouldn’t be consequences, and most anti death penalty proponents are for life in prison as an alternative. The way our jails are currently set up is defintely cruel and unusual punishment for sure, but as a society we have the right to make sure our citizens have consequences for their actions that impede on the rights of others.

But we don’t have to murder them.
