Being a liberal I read post on this forum from trump supporters that just leave me.shaking my head. What?

I am sure the same is true.when trumpers read post.from liberals.

It is like two completely different worlds. Everyone is looking at the same picture and seeing a completely different picture.

I wonder is there any common ground left or have we gone so far that one side.or the other must win and take America in that direction without any compromise?

No, everyone is NOT looking at the same picture. From what I have seen of libs they are not quoting any news source, not even a bad one. They are commenting on some lie a politician or somebody on this forum said. Joe Biden is still lying about what Trump said about Charlottesville, and some of the libs here are repeating it.

Until the left stops lying nothing is going to change.

If you were to read this board. No there is no common ground. If you were to talk to most people you would find most are in the same ballpark and its a matter of details. Where the rails come off is the socialists. Specifically the ones that see this country as irredeemable. As basically a constitutionalist and advocate for minimal government the genuine socialists and I have very little common ground especially on the notion of individual liberty and rights. We have to be very careful and precise as to what we call ourselves as language has been weaponized to such degree that without that precision, people are really talking past each other and dont know really what is being said. For instance right wing, left wing, liberal, conservative. These are all very poorly defined terms that have varied and muddled definitions especially now as the meanings and nuances of the meanings are changing constantly. The Overton window concept is very much in play. What is considered conservative now and liberal now are used to be considered more moderate and socialist not but a decade ago. Then you have the stakes of the game are so high that loss can be or is catastrophic to ones way of life that control of the government is turning out to be an absolute necessity, which it never used to be because government tended to not be that directly involved in ones life except very tangentially. Now its a direct and ever present threat and who is in charge becomes very important.

We aren’t that polerized. A small niche is losing power and going through those death throes. Look at polling on masking, testing, Trump’s handling of covid, etc. There isn’t a split, but a super majority that thinks Trump and his voters are nuts.

Remove the EC, and the GOP will have to compete nationally and either create a platform that means something to voters now or they become irrelevant.

Fortunately there are far more people in this country and they all are not represented here in this forum. :)

The current potus, and GOP standard bearer, has endorsed QAnon, praised Nazis as fine people, and declared American Jews as disloyal for not supporting him and Israel (Putting aside the anti-semitism, how dumb is it to argue that the only way you can prove you’re loyal to your country is by supporting a foreign country?).

But the problem is that there are people who want universal healthcare for all Americans.

This is the reality gap.

PS: Same group that keeps saying “racist” has lost it’s power due to overuse throw “socialist” at any program that buys food instead of a bullet.

We (the sheeple) are given the (viable general election) choice between candidates from the party for a bigger federal government or the party for a huge federal government. That appears to be (forced) common ground and/or compromise (at the federal government level).

Sadly, there can be no compromise.

After (nominal) President Biden takes over, there will be continued "unpleasantness."

The Dems made compromise impossible when they condoned and abetted violence in the streets.

Look, we all heard what Trump said about Charlottesville with our own ears. There is no debate over that. Joe Biden is not lying. The right want's us to believe something other than what Trump said.

He's proven himself to be a supporter of White Supremacy and no one can change that. Considering that now he wont dismiss Q, but instead accepts their support for him.

It's split down ideological lines and debate on this site has become insufferable.

I suspect the overall situation will remain in turmoil until a series of triggers cause it to flip into total chaos and eventually war. It's been prophesized.

The first problem of your argument are your assumptions. It is not a binary choice. Its not red vs. blue. Second you are assuming I am GOP. Voters typically are not exclusive from one to the other.

I didn’t ascribe affiliation to any political party to you, I responded directly to the content of your post.

Yes, voters party affiliation doesn’t necessarily represent who they vote for, however studies have demonstrated that most people tend to bend one way or the other ideologically most of their lives.

It’s like when conservative libertarian males who register as independent exclaim I’M NOT A REPUBLICAN despite holding views and voting patterns identical to that of a Republican.

Correct; the only debate is over how much you wanted to hear ...

"You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. ... I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name. ... So you know what, it's fine. You're changing history. You're changing culture. And you had people — and I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the White nationalists, because they should be condemned totally — but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and White nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly. Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people. But you also had troublemakers, and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group."

The Charlottesville comments were an attempt to widen Trumps base. Those comments though were more vague and easily spun. The Qanon comment is overtly obvious. Trump will not denounce Q because they are a part of his base, period.

Charlotsville was the feeler and Qanon is the result. Moving forward I suspect trump will get even more open about racism/fascism/white supremacy and especially after he loses the election. Think of Q as Trumps brown shirts, it will only get worse from here.

I believe that until we bring back the "Fairness Doctrine", we'll have many problems regarding what is real and what is Bulls!!t. >>> From Wikipedia
.
"The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was—in the FCC's view—honest, equitable, and balanced."

Now we have people essentially saying any crap/lies that happens to flow through their brain. Here's a good example>
"You know..The Canadians even send some of their citizens to the good ol' USA when they are sick!" "Proof that our neighbors to the north can't run a health care....etc..etc"

That statement sounds like the Canadian health care sucks..UNTIL..you hear the reason> "Sometimes when a person is critically sick AND is closer to a hospital in the USA then a hospital in Canada, the Canadian authorities will authorize the patient to cross the border and use a much closer hospital to speed up the treatment so the patient might not die"

If nobody points out that logic, we wind up with people who think that the other system is flawed. "Yeah Joe..Har, Har..the Canadians even send their people here to..etc..etc."
These assholes that spread those types of lies need to be corralled or at least challenge on the air. "Ah..that's not quite true sir...the Canadians only send..."

Therein lies your problem. You want to put people in a box. Its not so simple. Perhaps the voting patterns of people reflects a lack of candidates that accurately reflect the views of the voter at hand and a simple vote of necessity either from fear of harm or because the party in question is closest to their views. I know plenty of democrats that are voting Republican this year, and not because they like the Republican party. Its certainly not anything the Republicans did to woo them. Are these Democrats now Republicans? I wouldn't tell them that to their face that's for certain.

If they’re voting for a racist who thinks 180k dead Americans “is what it is,” then yes, I would argue they’re not Dems or DINOs.

But luckily for both of us none of these folks exist and you’re just making **** up.

Instead of whining about being misconstrued, you could actually speak to arguments and do a little more showin’ than tellin’. My take on you is this (and this is just from a few posts):

You’re a right wing conservative Trump guy who’s whole online schtick is pretending “both sides” but you only ever really wind up criticizing Dems. You probably say things like “I know lots of Dems, they’re gonna #walkaway!” But but but if you just declare that you’re not a registered Republican, then of course none of this can be true cause that’s how life works.

Prove me wrong.

Tweety's fans often bring their own custom realities. It's difficult to make a lying scumbag look like the best thing since sliced bread (and even better than sliced bread; a lot of people are saying that, believe me,) so it requires a lot of twisting and shouting to get there.

How many fact-checked lies has Trump been busted for since taking office? Is Trump a leftist? Why does Trump lie so much? Just provide a straight answer, please, and feel free to choose the 'credible' fact-checking source of your own choice.

In order to prove to me that there are indeed LIBRULS who are voting for Trump, you picked folks that wax poetically about Jordan Peterson and retweet Daily Caller articles. [emoji23]

There is no common ground to be had. It's been winner take all for quite a while now. Whatever party wins 50.1% to 49.9% declares a mandate and shoves their policies down everyone's throats. Compromise only means the other side coming over to your side and doing things your way. It also means making ridiculous demands so that when you "compromise" you get everything you really wanted in the first place. Maybe you could break the ice. What policies would you favor of the right in order to bring peace?

No, you didn't, because you weren't there and if you heard it on tape you didn't hear the whole thing.

Why do YOU lie? Because you don't know any better? Or because you can't know any better?
