We grant asylum to refugees because, around WW2, nobody wanted to accept all the Jewish refugees. We sent them to a British colony in Palestine and gave them their own land. That’s been an ongoing catastrophe, basically since its inception. The position that we can't deport anyone here illegally unless they're a violent criminal...is simply not politically sustainable. To quote David Frum, "If liberals insist that only fascists will enforce borders, then voters will hire fascists to do the job liberals refuse to do."
We can and should expand legal immigration. That doesn't mean we let in just anyone though. There are hundreds of millions - perhaps billions - of people who would like to move to America. Obviously it's not possible to take them all, which necessarily means saying no to lots of them.
Refugees and asylum seekers are two different groups. Refugees are (at least in theory) well-vetted and their numbers are determined before they ever arrive here. That's fine. For our humanitarian immigrants, a larger proportion should be refugees and a smaller proportion should be asylum seekers. That means tightening up the law on who qualifies for asylum and expanding immigration courts to process them faster. We grant asylum to refugees because, around WW2, nobody wanted to accept all the Jewish refugees. Correct. We decided we are going to let refugees, innocent people fleeing certain violence, come here, to be safe here. We have a legal process to ascertain the validity of their claims. If we decide that their claim is not sufficient, we don’t then throw those poor souls in prison as “illegal immigrants”, they’re just claimants who were denied. We can’t just go further and abuse them because it’s good TV for Trump.
Good, then we have common ground. I believe there should be a minimum of respect and fairness given to all people who are being taken into custody by our government.Refugees and asylum seekers are two different groups. Correct.
Seeing as the vast majority of Americans want illegal immigrants deported I think your comparison is rather weak.
Good you shouldn't obstruct police. Two arrested after neighbors try to stop ICE agents from detaining Worcester mother
Worcester police arrested the teen girl after her mother was detained by ICE to charge her with reckless endangerment of a child and more.www.boston.com
There is still courage in these United States.
I hope, in 100 years, we don’t have history students reading The Diary of a Young Girl by Ana Francisco about a Hispanic girl, hiding in an attic.
I see you are a big fan of strawman. No, you're right, the vast majority of people in America are perfectly happy, nothing to worry about. I was probably thinking of another country in the process of flushing itself down the toilet, carry on.
I see you are a big fan of strawman.
And sorry but I simply don’t care too much about the opinions of a Canadian about what the US is doing.
I'm not deflecting. We have a broken immigration system, on purpose, because the President wanted to run on immigration. Rather than doing nothing, while a bill passed Congress that would resolve a lot of these outstanding issues, he sunk the bill.Wanting the laws of this nation enforced has nothing to do with being worried but I get you are desperate to defect.
Any excuse to justify you supporting illegal immigration huh.
Pointing out the dishonest nonsense you post is does not mean I care about your opinion. But nice try though.Yet you keep responding. Weird.
I mean, don't get me wrong, your posts are inspirational, I'm learning ever so much, so I appreciate that you are, it's just weird that you say you don't care but you keep showing up in my notifications. In fact, I was just over here thanking my lucky stars that you are talking to me at all, given that I certainly wasn't talking to you.
Probably just my dumb Canadian brain failing to grasp the situation again. Yeah.. I'm sure that's it.
No idea how Trump sinking a bipartisan immigration bill written by the Republican Senate leader is an example of how Democrats don't want to resolve immigration, but I'm sure in your brain that makes sense.Really. Good example.
After being according due process.Who are here illegally and need to be deported.
But here again we see the left supporting illegal immigration and not wanting them to be deported.
It’s funny how over and over again someone from the left will claim that no one on the lefts supports illegal immigrants and yet every thread about illegals being deported there are multiple left wing people being upset that illegals are being deported.
Too bad trump wanted to exploit immigration as a campaign issue - and too bad his GOPers went along with scuttling their bipartisan bill.No idea how Trump sinking a bipartisan immigration bill written by the Republican Senate leader is an example of how Democrats don't want to resolve immigration, but I'm sure in your brain that makes sense.
Do we to go over over instances of where Trump is ignoring courts and their rulings, or are we going to pretend that doesn't exist while you pretend that the law matters to you.No you talking about anyone being worried because they want the laws of this country enforced and talking about how much tougher you are was a pretty pathetic attempt to deflect.
The immigration system has been
I was referring to Garcia going back to his native country.Venezuela and El Salvador are two entirely different countries. We sent 200+ Venezuelans to a prison in El Salvador. We are literally paying the government to keep them there.
You seem to believe I should have personal feelings about Garcia being deported back to his native country. No one has sentenced him AT ALL. Which is the ****ing problem. How long is he going to be in prison Jay? 6 months? 10 years? Life? Kind of hard to say WITHOUT A SENTENCE. Now what do you think the difference is between life in prison, and a prison sentence WITHOUT AN END DATE?
No you talking about anyone being worried because they want the laws of this country enforced and talking about how much tougher you are was a pretty pathetic attempt to deflect.I'm not deflecting. The President ran on violent criminals coming across the border, not stripping groups like Venezuelans of their asylum status. Not shipping asylum seekers to Libya. Not deporting people born in the country and stripping birthright citizenship.
For a group the pretends this about law, you sure seem to be really supportive of him consistently breaking laws with his immigration policy.
So, you can stop with your fake self righteousness. No one is fooled.
And your evidence that there was no due process in this case is what exactly. After being according due process.
Rounding up, detaining, and renditioning unidentified people - some of whom could be citizens - doesn't fit the "due process" requirement.
It’s funny seeing you claim you are not deflecting while going straight from one defection to the next.Do we to go over over instances of where Trump is ignoring courts and their rulings, or are we going to pretend that doesn't exist while you pretend that the law matters to you.
Great example of democrats poisoning the process to sink a bipartisan effort. No idea how Trump sinking a bipartisan immigration bill written by the Republican Senate leader is an example of how Democrats don't want to resolve immigration[deflection removed]
Pointing out the dishonest nonsense you post is does not mean I care about your opinion. But nice try though.
It’s a public forum. Sorry that fact bothers you and I will respond to and any post I feel like responding to.
Your struggle to grasp things has nothing to do with you being Canadian. Yet that doesn’t make that struggle any less obvious.
Again that you struggle with understand that me posting on this site for entertainment doesn’t mean I care about your opinion.Look, another post from the guy who doesn't care. This must be my lucky day, my cup overfloweth.
Please, share more.
Yes, and you continue to claim that he was merely deported. Imprisonment without a release date, and deportation, are two entirely different things. And your pretense is made even more ridiculous by the fact that he was sent to a prison in El Salvador on the same plane as a bunch of Venezuelans who have absolutely nothing to do with that country. That is not how deportation works.I was referring to Garcia going back to his native country.
It's true, you got me. I don't personally care about any of them. Of course, it is pretty hard to get personally invested in them because we literally DON'T KNOW WHO THE **** THEY ARE. The administration won't even give us their names. We don't know what specifically they are accused of, let alone any evidence against them. We don't know that they're criminals, we don't even know that they're illegals. You seem to believe I should have personal feelings about Garcia being deported back to his native country.
How many of those 161 Venezuelans do you personally care about?
Yeah, I know you don't care. You just want 'those people' gone and you don't care how it gets done. Fine, carry on not caring. Just stop insulting everyone's intelligence with these IDIOTIC arguments. No, Garcia did not just get a "free plane ticket". He is in prison, probably forever. Trump is not merely deporting people to their home countries, he is paying a foreign government to abuse them where our legal system cannot intervene. It is unfortunate all of them were not brought before a judge individually and with great deliberation to verify their deportation.
I think you should make sure Trump is never elected again - in this country.
So you think that the person hiding Anne Frank was the villain of the story?Good you shouldn't obstruct police.
Who's being exterminated right now?So you think that the person hiding Anne Frank was the villain of the story?
So you can obstruct police only when you know extermination is happening.Who's being exterminated right now?
