Two arrested after neighbors try to stop ICE agents from detaining Worcester mother

We grant asylum to refugees because, around WW2, nobody wanted to accept all the Jewish refugees. We sent them to a British colony in Palestine and gave them their own land. That’s been an ongoing catastrophe, basically since its inception.

We decided we are going to let refugees, innocent people fleeing certain violence, come here, to be safe here. We have a legal process to ascertain the validity of their claims. If we decide that their claim is not sufficient, we don’t then throw those poor souls in prison as “illegal immigrants”, they’re just claimants who were denied. We can’t just go further and abuse them because it’s good TV for Trump.

Refugees and asylum seekers are two different groups. Refugees are (at least in theory) well-vetted and their numbers are determined before they ever arrive here. That's fine. For our humanitarian immigrants, a larger proportion should be refugees and a smaller proportion should be asylum seekers. That means tightening up the law on who qualifies for asylum and expanding immigration courts to process them faster.

Good, then we have common ground. I believe there should be a minimum of respect and fairness given to all people who are being taken into custody by our government.

If there are people who came here and overstayed their visas, if they live here, if they pay our taxes, if they (otherwise) obey our laws, if we didn’t even notice they were here until we came searching for them, what’s the big freaking deal anyway? Is it really worth all these officers time to lock up this woman?

Fundamentally, I don’t trust ICE to police itself, but that’s the situation Trump has supercharged. ICE officers are providing all of the oversight, they’re cutting judges out of the process. I know they’re trying to make a show of rounding people up, of doing these scare tactics.

Excessive police force is not a good sign.

I'm not deflecting. We have a broken immigration system, on purpose, because the President wanted to run on immigration. Rather than doing nothing, while a bill passed Congress that would resolve a lot of these outstanding issues, he sunk the bill.

The President ran on violent criminals coming across the border, not stripping groups like Venezuelans of their asylum status. Not shipping asylum seekers to Libya. Not deporting people born in the country and stripping birthright citizenship.

For a group the pretends this about law, you sure seem to be really supportive of him consistently breaking laws with his immigration policy.

So, you can stop with your fake self righteousness. No one is fooled.

Your struggle to grasp things has nothing to do with you being Canadian. Yet that doesn’t make that struggle any less obvious.

Rounding up, detaining, and renditioning unidentified people - some of whom could be citizens - doesn't fit the "due process" requirement.

Too bad trump wanted to exploit immigration as a campaign issue - and too bad his GOPers went along with scuttling their bipartisan bill.

Prove that Republicans do not want to mitigate, much the less resolve, any immigration-related issues.

How many of those 161 Venezuelans do you personally care about?
It is unfortunate all of them were not brought before a judge individually and with great deliberation to verify their deportation.
I think you should make sure Trump is never elected again - in this country.

The immigration system has been broken for a long time now and the left own just as much blame for that as the right. And that bill had some good parts as well as plenty of bad parts. But let’s not pretending that Biden acting like there was no issue for the first three years did anything but make the problem worse.


Please find a single post of mine supporting him breaking the law. Because I can find plenty of posts of mine calling him out for it and stating he needs to be in jail.

But hey I guess if we are just making shit up then I guess it’s just as easy for me to claim you are simply for open borders because you hope illegals will help you win elections in the future right?

You will not find a single post of mine supporting Trump ignoring court rulings or breaking the law while I can quote numerous posts of mine claiming he should be in jail.

Yes, and you continue to claim that he was merely deported. Imprisonment without a release date, and deportation, are two entirely different things. And your pretense is made even more ridiculous by the fact that he was sent to a prison in El Salvador on the same plane as a bunch of Venezuelans who have absolutely nothing to do with that country. That is not how deportation works.

It's true, you got me. I don't personally care about any of them. Of course, it is pretty hard to get personally invested in them because we literally DON'T KNOW WHO THE **** THEY ARE. The administration won't even give us their names. We don't know what specifically they are accused of, let alone any evidence against them. We don't know that they're criminals, we don't even know that they're illegals.

Which brings us to another obvious point which you somehow are not seeing. This isn't about those people, it is about our rights. If government agents can throw people in a foreign prison without having to prove their accusations, without any oversight, without a release date, that is an enormous problem. Hell, they apparently can't even get people back if mistakes are made. It's absurd.

Yeah, I know you don't care. You just want 'those people' gone and you don't care how it gets done. Fine, carry on not caring. Just stop insulting everyone's intelligence with these IDIOTIC arguments. No, Garcia did not just get a "free plane ticket". He is in prison, probably forever. Trump is not merely deporting people to their home countries, he is paying a foreign government to abuse them where our legal system cannot intervene.
