So with Twitter pretty likely be owned by Elon Musk, if you don't want to be on it anymore due to either that alone or some decision Musk may make regarding it (whether reinstating Trump, allowing pretty much anything, pay to post/use/VIP service, etc), is there another social media app (besides DP) that you would go to?

I'm looking for go to as a Twitter replacement, not really something you may already be using for a different reason than you may be on Twitter for now. Although if you plan to use that other app more because of not approving of the direction of Twitter, replacing it for Twitter, that would apply.

Obviously there is Facebook, but that one seems more personal than Twitter. There is Instagram and Snapchat (although these seem to be photo sharing or shortterm sharing apps, not really like Twitter), as well as YouTube and TikTok (although I think these are much more video based than Twitter, so different type of social media platform but still may be alternative).

Some others that are much more similar to Twitter and may become an alternative seem like they may be WhatsApp, Telegram, Pinterest, and Reddit. Most of these do have their own downsides. Reddit, from my experience, is very topic driven. Pinterest seems to draw mostly artsy people. Telegram, from what I have read, seems to be preferred by crytocurrency followers. I'm not totally sure what WhatsApp is, whether it is comparable to Twitter either. I know there is also Tumblr, Gab, Mastodon, CounterSocial, and some others as well that may be coming up. Any other alternatives feel free to share.

Never had a Tweeter, Myface, Instantcart, or any other social media account anyway. I'm on this forum, a couple of gun forums, and that is it.

Other: not paying attention except to the extent someone posts a relevant tweet here or an article I care about mentions a relevant tweet.

However, I do find it quite amusing that Trumpists around the board are constantly insisting that "the left" is "upset" or that heads are exploding. I don't think I've come across a single post in which anyone, left of otherwise, is upset that Musk bought twitter.

I actually think it'd be hilarious if he goes all in on this no posting rules theme. It'd become 8chan with nazis, porn, nazi porn, snuff videos, and most likely nazi porn snuff videos.

Which is why he won't actually do it and why I have basis for further amusement: Musk will undoubtedly make changes, but the probability that they're giving certain people their wet dream in real life is just about zero. Whatever happens, it'll most likely feed into his other endeavors.

I have an account but I rarely use it. I used to really like Elon Musk. I'll drop the account after the purchase is complete to indicate my disapproval of Musk business practices.

Make Twitter Truth Social Again.

Two things remain certain with me: I would never have a Tweeter account, nor would ever own some lame electric car. Any information I share with strangers can usually be read off of one of the bumper stickers on my pick up truck.

I have an account but I only used it once. It really won't affect me.

And upon further reading, since Musk is going to make it a private company and I'm not a fan of Musk, I'll probably close the account. No problem for Musk since I'm a non-user, but no reason to keep it, either.

I mostly stopped using social media part way through the first year of the Covid pandemic.

So I'll probably keep my accounts and check in every so often to see how crazy things are.

I just hope that "news" stories won't consist of people reacting to things on twitter anymore.

Never used Twitter and don't plan to use it.
Musk says free speech will come back to Twitter?
It sounds like the employees of the company are very upset at the sale?
Might be a bumpy road during the transition to a private company.
Lets see how the MSM reports this story?

I think people will stay on Twitter as long as they are OK with it...not really getting the big deal here.

Some are saying they will leave because they won't be giving Musk any money, and he'd be the main person benefiting financially after the deal from Twitter.

Others are saying they will wait to see what, if any changes are made because he has suggested making changes that people don't agree with. One is making some or all of Twitter a subscription service, which, even if not all, would lead to a caste system on Twitter which many do not want. "You got verified by paying" or "You get to interact with more people for paying me more money". Most don't want that.

The other main suggestion that could cause people to get off Twitter is "opening up free speech", meaning he is talking about having less moderation, letting people freely say more without action. The problem is that this has been tried on other sites. One of the main reasons I've been on this site so long is that I like the rules here. I like that we can interact with each other at least semirespectfully in most of the debates. People actually do get punished on here for breaking rules and that should happen.
