NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) is poised to agree a sale to Elon Musk for around $43 billion in cash, the price the CEO of Tesla has called his "best and final" offer for the social media company, people familiar with the matter said.

Twitter may announce the $54.20-per-share deal later on Monday once its board has met to recommend the transaction to Twitter shareholders, the sources said, adding it was still possible the deal could collapse at the last minute.

I know a lot of people on this board were upset with the idea of less censorship on Twitter, but if Reuters is correct it looks like it might happen. Twitter has allegedly agreed to Musk's offer to buy them out. They still have some escape hatches, but they're moving forward it seems. Musk believes that Twitter needs to become a private company to become a "genuine platform for free speech."

Could you quote....oh.... any of these people being "upset"? Here's an older thread on it:

I don't see a single "upset" person. It's curious. You actually posted this in that thread at post #34, and it's a response to someone who was joking about it. You didn't quote a single "upset" person, there or here. But then, Trumpist baiting does lie on dishonesty; dumber is better because the sheer stupidity of the lie makes it more likely to annoy a liberal, thereby "pwning the libtards" or whatever you call it now.

_______________
I think it would be hilarious if he goes all in and lets people post whatever the **** they want. Twitter would crash and burn because, as it turns out, people don't actually want their social media messaging service to be 8chan with a bunch of extra nazis, porn, and nazi porn.

My bet is he'll do little things like add an edit button/window, etc., but not really radically change it. Or if he does radically change it, it will be more to his own business ends. Then we'll get to watch them run around declaring that Musk saved "free speech", not that the term means anything at all divorced from the 1st.

Question: who gets the 43 billion? Shareholders? Does that mean he is the only shareholder then? He takes it off the market?

Precisely!

That is correct.

And for all the little trump losers that are celebrating this because they believe that Musk will give their fuhrer his Twitter handle back, just bear one thing in mind.

A private corporation is not obligated to extend ”fee speech“ on their platform to anyone.

Not the shareholders of Twitter, nor the new owner, Musk.

And if Trump and the trumpkins all thing the Trump is going to be able to spew whatever garbage he wants on Twitter, you all need to bear in mind that Musk has abolute veto power over any of it.

No, but the right wing noise machine is telling its audience that this has “liberals head’s exploding”

It doesn’t matter whether this is true. As long as the Fox/Telegram.Alex Jones,/ Trump mob thinks it is, they’re entretained.

I would not care if Twitter Collapses... "Tid Bit Spin Drama" is all that Twitter ever was... it will never be more than an Advertising Platform, that sells the profiles of its subjects and use its number of subject subscribers to place valuation on its advertising business model.

Why would anyone be hung up on a "Out of Context" - phrase slinging social media platform. It's for people who don't have their own work motivations and focus on being good at their own job and improving their own life.

And it's why the American experiment might finally be nearing its end. You can't have a republican democracy when the base of one of two parties has entered its post-truth phase.

Great news for freedom of speech

Well that was a rude condesending post. Why are you trying to start a flame war in this thread I wonder?

I find it laughable that so many frail hand wringing liberals are in absolute fear that Donald Trump may have access to Twitter again. That his words can upset the frail infantile sensibilities and cause "the sky to fall" LOL.

Poor liberals, they may have their insecurity blanket ripped from their hands. LOL

Only in your own mind, my friend. It's you people who were giddy about the possibility. I don't give a shit about Twitter.

What are the escape hatches?

I hope he gets Trump his account back.

Who?

This has managed to peg a solid "Meh" on my personal Give-A-Shit-Ometer. At best Twitter is simply another social that is used to sling shit at people. No different than Facebook or DP. I saw no reason to ban Trump or anyone else for simply being assholes but that was the board's choice. Putting Trump back on Twitter does nothing but make his insanity more visible. I'm all for it. I want people to see what a shitty human being he is. And how equally shitty his followers are.

What I do find funny is that with a stroke of a pen on sale day Musk will be far far closer to a no-holds-barred social platform than Truth Social ever got. Time to add that stinking corpse to the long list of Trump business failures.

This is a game changer. The left will lose control of the narrative which is something they desperately need to perpetuate their Marxism in America agenda and in fact an integral part of it.

Twitter has a leftist narrative yet the majority of mainstream conservatives are on there daily tweeting all kinds of their own narratives.

Question: who gets the 43 billion? Shareholders? Does that mean he is the only shareholder then? He takes it off the market?

Yes, the company will pay the minority shareholders the agreed price. Then Musk could ask the SEC to delist the stock. He and his investors would have 100% ownership.

Thats generally the case for publicly trade stocks. If people have preferred shares, they might have special agreements with the company.

They wont. They still have 98% of the market with many media sites and social media. Twitter is just one place. And most of american isnt on it. More people get their news directly from MSM.

Lets hope he delivers on free speech absolutism. I can finally rejoin. #trustbutverify
