Hello friends,
This thread is to ask for examples if there ever was a TVshow you were watching where at some point they drastically crossed the line withyour personal value system so bad that you never watched them again.

This is NOT a discussion of your personal values, but justabout something you saw on a show that really crossed the line with them so badyou never watched that show again. Somuch that you said, “ Oh, hell no!”, and never watched that show again.

I have three examples…

1. The Man Show – there was one bit where AdamCorolla was taking his mother out, but it was completely romantic between themboth and it finished with them both going to a motel room and closing the doorbehind them. Consentual sex being implied
Oh, hell NO!...click

2. Barney Miller – Once a guy came in and reportedbeing robbed of his paycheck and the detectives said it was nothing to getupset about or fight the thief about.Well, I do not know about the rest of the population, but my paychecksare the source of my kids food, clothing, and keeping the bills paid and a roofover all our heads. No damned thief isgoing to rob my family of their money, and their source of security. It IS something to fight over.
Oh, hell NO!...click

3. The Jeffersons – On one episode George Jeffersonhad a manager of one of his many dry cleaning shops quit, and he was lookingfor a replacement from within his employees.A white lady who had been there for many years was suggested, but Georgesaid no.He said his was a black ownedbusiness and only black people would be promoted to management positions evenif they were not as qualified as anyone of another race.
Oh, hell NO!...click

Sometimes these TV shows cross the line inmaking a point that the writers and producers want to shove down our throats, regardless of legal, moral, or ethical standards. It is their TV show and they can say whatthey want to, but I can also exercise my right to change the channel and neverwatch they show again.

So, friends, have you even seen somethingon TV that was so “over the top” against your beliefs that you vowed to neverwatch that show again?

Remember, this is not about your values, but about some shows you may have seen that completely pissed you off enough soyou never watched them again.

I would love to hear about them.

PS...I wrote this on WORD as I was afraid it might time out before I was done and I would loose it all, so I apologize for some of the spaces between words being omitted in the pasting.

No its art, art does not need to conform to my values to be interesting. I do remember that I gave up on Nip/Tuck because of some particular ridiculous plot twist, after a stream of ridiculous plot twists, but that is not what you are talking about.

EDIT: I am also having a problem with some of the Netflix stuff that came from God knows where...never hit a theater....I get 15 -20 minutes in and realize that who ever wrote this crap seems to have not the first clue about the reality of the human condition. A few nights ago I wasted over a hour getting three such examples in a row.

I hear ya. You sometimes have to wonder who they had to sleep with to get their crap put on the screen.

Even so, I still love Netflix simply for the fact there are no irritating commercials. I am really becoming a commercial hating fanatic. Especially when they play the same ones over and over and over again. It is literally mind numbing.

Dexter... glorifying mass murder.. Same with Fight Club.. might as well legalize snuff films.

Daredevil season 2.. put me off for season 3.. Way to much gore that is not needed for the story line. You dont need to see the drill going into the leg to understand that this is happening for **** sake.. You dont need to see multiple people being garotted with blood spewing all over the place. The motion of doing in both cases would be fine.

Only one I can think of. I loved the John Belushi et all Saturday Night Live cast. When they'd all changed out, I hung around briefly, but, to my taste, they just weren't funny anymore. The last episode I watched showed two of the female comics in bed under covers masturbating. IMO it was a SO cheap laugh grab...that didn't work in the slightest...I never watched again. I thought that skit crossed the line.

Now? Hell, I think some COMMERCIALS cross the line.

One that particularly frosts my behind is for the feminine wash product a guy accidentally uses in the shower as his wife points out its Ph balanced for her V. Her V?? That's VAGINA. If you can have an ad for it? Say the darned word, for heaven's sake. Are we NUTZ? Doesn't offend me...just crosses the "STOOPID Threshhold."

Are we going to have to listen to ads about Winkie Dysfunction soon? I want truth in advertising, damn it. "Can't get it up??? We've got an APP for that!!!"

I find some violence on cable to be almost pornographic...that of the Hostel ilk.

No I don't enjoy formatted TV never have.

Sometimes a show will grab my interest, I follow it until it bores me, then I drop it.

It's nothing personal but some shows will hold me through their entire life such as Dexter, or Sopranos, currently Walking Dead is still holding me as is Game of Thrones and Vikings.

I am not plot driven, I am character driven. People in real life are complex, never black and white, life occurs in the gray zone, so as long as a show keeps the characters complex and real, it will hold me.

THAT pissed you off so much that you stopped watching????

Barney Miller was an AWESOME show. Even the theme song was spectacular.

Perhaps the inference with the paycheck was as simple as this: Checks can be cancelled and rewritten. So fighting over it doesn't make sense.

Seems rather insignificant and hardly worth getting all boycottish about.

LOST... for having such a ****TY ****ING ENDING!!!!!

Amazing Discoveries- when they came out with reversible shoes, I knew the world was going to end soon!

I've never watched anything regarding the Kardashians/Jenners due to finding the majority of the entire circus of idiots to be offensive to anything and all things intelligent.

Good Topic. Here are my pet peeves on TV and I watch a lot of TV. I like a lot of TV, so obviously I will find things that annoy will annoy me in the content.

1. Sense8. Netflix. I hear it's great, but then I hear that it's a sci-fi melodrama custom made for millennials. When I first started the series, they showed some lady having a very difficult pregnancy delivery partially due to all the telepathy going on I am sure. That being said, I don't like pregnancy deliveries on TV. It sounds like really bad and loud sex to me. Which turns me off. You almost always know what's going to happen. The baby is almost always A-OK. Taking away the whole point of the difficulty. I don't know if I'll ever get back to watching it.

2. The Office and most modern day comedies. I never watched this show when it first came on, because I knew I wouldn't like it, but I am currently hate-binge-watching this show due to the advice of my sister. I am in season four and still waiting for it to get good. There are maybe a couple of good episodes throughout so far, but at this point I am just simply calling it a bad dramedy. I am beginning to understand that I hate cringe comedy and awkward comedy. Basically if Steve Carrell's character was not in the show it would be tons better as the supporting cast is great. That's not against steve carrel I like him in other stuff. I just don't like Michael Scott and want to kick him in the face. Call me old fashioned, but just give me a regular multi-camera sitcom with a family or some couples and I am good to go.

3. Anything written or produced by Shonda Rhimes. For those who don't know these include semi-soap operas like How to Get Away with Murder and Scandal. Plus the way too long lived Grey's Anatomy. BTW, I like soap operas but Shonda-land tries way too hard!

4. I think Scorpion and Quantico are way over the top period copish dramas. The first episode of Scorpion and the entire concept is pretty silly. Quantico's terrorist storyline was just as silly and ridiculous. I'd rather the show be about new FBI recruits and I cringe at the thought of what they will do next season. Not watching it, ya know. I can give some slack to the various CSI's and NCIS's but now that Dinozzo is leaving NCIS I will probably only watch NCIS: LA next year.

5. Family Guy. Yeah, this show deserves it's own special spot and it still gets renewed year after year!!!! As soon as Seth MAcFarlane started inserting comedy bits that only he finds funny like an obscure piece about some artist no one has ever heard of. I stopped watching and never looked back. Actually that has to be another pet peeve of mine, when producers feel like making fun of artists or musicians that mean something to them and only them.

6. Mr. Robot. Perhaps the only thing knocking Breaking Bad out of my favorite show slot is Mr. Robot, even though, I really don't like the pro-conspiracy theory plotlines. It makes up for it with other twisty content that is just as mind-blowing as Breaking Bad was! I will still watch it but not for that.

7. Deadpool...Wait is this only for TV??

Breaking Bad, where the guy watches a girl choke to death on her own vomit instead of helping her. Bryan Cranston is so good an actor, that scene just shook me. Never picked the show up again.

I won't watch any Woody Allen has a hand in.

Lots of shows "jump the shark". That's why I stop watching them.

Game of Thrones when Stannis had his daughter burned at the stake. Yes, that show is nothing but one character being more vile and evil than another, but that scene was a show stopper--literally--for me. My hope is that the dead people on the other side of the wall will kill every living soul in each of the kingdoms. The living on that show are the bad guys; the dead might just turn out to be the good guys.

I was really digging Luther and I don't regret watching it.

But there was an episode where a crazy murderer guy bought an unlicensed bus and as his last act of murder, was going to steal a bus load of children and make them disappear. He had a warehouse in an abandoned industrial estate which had chemical drums that were to be shipped to India so no one would ever know what happened to the kids or find their bodies.

So... That's not the part that bothered me in the sense it was compelling right, obviously we're all worried about the kids.

What was totally ****ed was that Luther figured ALL of this out already, they knew the guy had a bus and what he was gonna do, where he was gonna do it, they called in all available London Metro resources, armed response, helicopters, Constables, and they missed him because the crazy murder man then transferred the kids into an unmarked van.

Still, all fine but this is where it gets ****ed.

Luther and his sidekick then figure out where the ****ing warehouse is and they ****ing call it in, they were calling it in from a car stuck in traffic on the other side of London of which the car had no portable police siren/light... And even though half of London Metro was on alert for this, somehow, Luther and his partner are, for the sake of the plot, the first ones to the warehouse.

Suspension of disbelief is crucial and I'm sorry but that was total crap, London Met woulda swarmed that ducking place within a couple of minutes of knowing the location of 20 school children about to be murdered.

Dang it I forgot all about Game of Thrones lol. That show sucks.

Yeah you don't need to worry about that guy anymore

Aren't some of the shows designed that way to make you think?

I remember Archie Bunker, and the family would watch the show together. It provoked conversations about bigotry, and segregation, and so many other problems that we faced as a country back then.

There were many others that did the same thing. Both good and bad along the way.

My parents used shows like those to try to show us that not everyone thought the same, or wanted the same things.

Can't say I have ever stopped watching a show because of something they showed. Mostly it is just bad tv I hate.

I can't say that I have ever walked away from a TV show that I liked because of a single thing I didn't like. If I stop watching, it might be because something breaks the camel's back, but it was on rocky ground for a long, long time.

To each thier own but we are just wired different .. ive seen probably every episode of the the shows you brought up . . . they were "comedies" so their ability to ever offend me is probably nil.

ANd im trying to think and answer your question and I dont think any show has ever affected me like that "personal value system" because its just entertainment . . .

Theres shows that have lost me simply because of bad writing or losing interest but none that I can remember because of a difference in morals or values . . . maybe im just not thinking hard enough . .

do you have any other personal examples? or popular examples that you know of?

It is an interesting topic but I just dont think im wired that way .. . i think a show would probably have to be wrong from the start or make a very major blatant and obvious change
