Istanbul, Turkey (CNN) -- Despite an epic rift in Turkish-Israeli relations, Turkey's top general announced his troops are relying on new unmanned aerial drones recently purchased from Israel to battle Kurdish rebels.

At an international military conference on Monday, the commander of Turkey's armed forces, Gen. Ilker Basbug, said that within the last 10 days, his troops had begun employing Israeli-made "Heron" drones on surveillance missions over Turkey's mountainous eastern border with Iraq.

Basbug spoke after a weekend of bloody clashes with Kurdish rebels left at least 12 Turkish soldiers stationed in this border region dead.

The fact that Turkey still depends on Israel for high-tech defense technology could complicate the Turkish government's threats to punish Israel for a botched Israeli commando raid in which eight Turks and a dual-national Turkish-American were shot dead aboard a Turkish ship carrying aid to Gaza.

From another thread:

The army has no qualms with Israel. TAF (Turkish armed forces) and the IDF maintain exceptional relations and always have. It is the AKP, who is anti-TAF and anti-IDF that is causing the problems, hence why Jews and anti-Turkish posters alike need to re-evaluate there knee jerk views against secular Turkey.

Outstanding lack of knowledge on the current affairs within Turkey, the current war waging against the AKP and the secular judiciary/Army is what is ironic.

Actually that's not irony, that doesn't fit the definition of the word 'Irony' and calling it ironic is as correct as calling it a goat.

Now that we're past that phase, the Turkish government condemning Israel for its raids on Hamas while ordering its army to raid Kurdish rebels in the Turkish-Iraqi border using Israeli drones is indeed ridiculously ironic, and I can't see what can you possibly disagree with here.

Turkey condemned the force used by Israel, not the raids itself.

Key point is that the Turkish regime condemns Israel while using the same methods, and even using Israeli weapons.

Sorry, but i genuinely think you are going doolaly.

Firstly, i will repeat myself:

a) Turkey condemned the force Israel used. Turkey uses a method that is suitable for rural strikes. If you claim Israel too is using these same methods, then i think Netanyahu is due a letter from yours sincerly, outlining possible method changes, since Gaza isn't exactly rural.
b) What difference does it make who's weapons we use to kill terrorists? Am i missing something here?

Turkey uses Israeli drones in its strikes. Israel uses Israeli drones in its strikes. Make the connection.
Besides that whatever Erdogan's government was condemning (you'll need to source the specific reference to "force being used"), he's still making an obvious hypocritical statement when he does the same thing.

It points at the irony in condemning a country for something that you yourself do using that same country's weapons.

How does one define a 'honorable' Kurd from a 'terrorist' Kurd? Depends on which side of the border they stand.

Isnt the Turkish/Kurdish arguement the same as the Palestinian/Israeli argument?

I still dont see the connection. Is Erdogan condemning Israel for using a specific Heron drone model? wtf. There is no link. Israel makes high quality weapons, beats the cheap Russian or Chinese crap that North Korea buys or the overtly expensive US hardware.

Lastly, thats the entire point behind Erdogans argument (back then, at least). Too much force was used in a largerly populated area. Hence why linking it to N Iraq is irrelevant and stupid.

Umm...No? Do you know anything? This has nothing to do with our Kurds. We are talking about the PKK. They dont operate in Eastern Turkey because our Kurds do not support them - because we have given them equal rights, self determination and awareness and eliminating there need for such stupid organizations in the process like the PKK.

We take pride in the role Kurds have played in our history, especially at Canakale.

What exactly is the goal and quest of the PKK if not re-establishment of Kurdistan? No...I dont have the same knowledge as Im sure you do. I DO have the utter disgust of militarily supporting a policy which sheltered Kurds in Iraq while supporting the elimination of Kurds in Turkey.

The goal of the PKK is to establish a socialist, communist Kurdistan which involves a chunk of Eastern Turkey, some of Armenia, Iran and Iraq. That is the apparent "homeland".

I DO have the utter disgust of militarily supporting a policy which sheltered Kurds in Iraq while supporting the elimination of Kurds in Turkey.
Explain?
