Did Tucker mention Donald Trump's import tariffs on baby formula?

Try not to be so gullible.

  • A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against Fox News after lawyers for the network argued that no "reasonable viewer" would take the network's primetime star Tucker Carlson seriously.
  • The network asked a judge to dismiss the case, arguing that "Carlson's statements were not statements of fact and that she failed adequately to allege actual malice."
  • The judge agreed with Fox's premise, adding that the network "persuasively argues" that "given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer is skeptical of anything he says.

What was the plan once the government decided to shut down a plant that provided 30 plus percent of needed formula? Certainly Team Biden had a back up plan. From what we’re hearing about lockdowns same thing. They never thought of the negative consequences.

They should consult with Trump on how to get something done like he did vents.

Thanks. This article is interesting

From link..

Non-trade barriers such as FDA labeling and ingredient requirements also limit imports even during shortages.

Another snip from the link..

Further limiting competition is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) for low-income mothers. By the Department of Agriculture’s estimate, WIC accounted for between 57% and 68% of all infant formula sold in the U.S. Under the welfare program, each state awards an exclusive formula contract to a manufacturer.

Companies compete for the contracts by offering states huge rebates on the formula women can buy. The rebates equal about 85% of the wholesale cost, according to a 2011 USDA study. Women can only use WIC vouchers to purchase formula from the winning manufacturer. These rebates reduce state spending, but there’s no such thing as free baby formula.

Much like Maddow on MSNBC do you have a point?

MSNBC's top-rated host Rachel Maddow devoted a segment in 2019 to accusing the right-wing cable outlet One America News (OAN) of being a paid propaganda outlet for the Kremlin. Discussing a Daily Beast article which noted that one OAN reporter was a "Russian national” who was simultaneously writing copy for the Russian-owned outlet Sputnik on a freelance contract, Maddow escalated the allegation greatly into a broad claim about OAN's real identity and purpose: “in this case,” she announced, “the most obsequiously pro-Trump right wing news outlet in America really literally is paid Russian propaganda."

In response, OAN sued Maddow,

There are 4 manufacturers of baby formula in the US. One got shut down temporarily because of a health issue.

Stop lying.

Mr. Tucker Carlson has a job in which providing an audience which will attract advertising dollars is of prime concern to both employee and employer.

What he says must be seen in that light. All other considerations, including veracity, form a minor distant second place combined.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

So, they're just supposed to leave the plant open taking the chance that some of those infectious bacteria would get into formula? Every now and then there are emergency situations. This was one of them. And by the way, the FDA doesn't call Biden for permission to do something.

I think there should be a new formula developed that tracks how many minutes it takes for Carlson to blame Joe Biden for something.

This is SOOOOOOO not a single adminisration problem. It is even hard to call it a multiple administration problem unless you want to blame decades of allowing industry and business consolidation on a grand scale and a regulatory environment that allows a domestic baby formula plant to utterly fall apart.

Beyond that, you can blame insistence on finding the lowest cost model for everything and unwillingness to take on the fossil fuel industry and climate change in any sort of meaningful way.

So buckle up buttercups. The Pandemic just exacerbated a problem that has been growing for decades across multiple markets.

Deplorables. And that's being generous.

Lose the message by blaming the audience?

Wow!

Hi, The AntiDonald.

They -- the audience -- are part and parcel of us, genus h. sapiens, We are many and varied. Some of us are attracted to one thing, others to another. The reasons we are attracted are also multifold. I listen to 'conservative' talk radio from time to time for, among other reasons, keeping my ability to spot logical errors well honed. The fact that I listen doesn't make me a 'conservative'. More proof that facts have no impact on neo-conservatives.

Wow!
Without the audience, Tucker is toast. Same applies for any network show. Tucker's sometimes nasty, and untruthful diatribe is carefully crafted to appeal to a certain audience.

It has been said that a person that watches Fox News is less informed than someone who watches no news. We'll just leave it at that.

Why do you inhale the bullshit of the racist, RWE sundancecracker @theconservativetreehouse ?
...and did Tucker, who assumes you know better than to believe he is presenting facts to you, explain how or why "government created the subsidized baby formula monopoly"?

Case 1:19-cv-11161-MKV Document 39 Filed 09/24/20 Page 12 of 19
"..12 “exaggeration” and “non-literal commentary.” Milkovich, 497 U.S. at 20-21; Levinsky’s, Inc. v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., 127 F.3d 122, 128 (1st Cir. 1997)). Fox persuasively argues, see Def Br. at 13-15, that given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer “arrive(S) with an appropriate amount of skepticism” about the statements he makes. 600 W. 115th Corp. v. Von Gutfeld, 80 N.Y.2d 130, 141, 603 N.E.2d 930, 936 (1992). Whether the Court frames Mr. Carlson’s statements as “exaggeration,” “non-literal commentary,” or simply bloviating for his audience, the conclusion remains the same—the statements are not actionable."

Isn't it because nearly half the mothers of newborns cannot afford to deliver or care for a baby, and that was in a society in which
abortion was at least an option?

Would Tucker have these babies starve instead of government involved as a last resort, as it is involved as a last resort to avoid unattended
births, perhaps in mangers in stables?

Let's look at statistics of some states that voted for Trump,

Percent of birth mothers that qualified for medicaid coverage of birth expenses, in 2020 :

https://www.kff.org/medicaid/state-indicator/births-financed-by-medicaid/?currentTimeframe=0&sortModel={"colId":"Location","sort":"asc"%7D

Louisiana - 61%
Mississippi - 60%
Oklahoma - 51%
Texas - 50%
Alabama - 50%
Tennessee - 49%
South Carolina - 48%
Kentucky - 48%
West Virginia - 48%
Florida - 47%

And, in the states with the highest adult education averages, none of which voted in the majority for Trump

Colorado - 36%
Massachusetts - 31%
New Jersey - 28%
Connecticut - 37%
California - 40%

"Capitalism without competition isn't capitalism; it's exploitation."

~ Joe Biden

Does anyone else wonder where these lunatics come from?

Yeah...here is what happened (in this case)....A bunch of Democrats got together and decided that we should have a baby formula shortage.

Its almost as crazy as what liberals (mostly) used to say about Bush's gang planning 9/11.

The compromise with the G.O.P. for the purpose of preventing as many undernourished babies during the key growth period of
early childhood development, or there would likely be no government subsidy and the G.O.P. would project the blame for the
consequences of that on everyone other than them, was that unless a care providing physician wrote a prescription for a specialized
baby formula variety... say for a baby diagnosed as intolerant of cow's milk, 95 out of 100 babies were only eligible in their state of
residence for baby formula of the lowest contract bidder, re-bid every three years.

2004:
"
Mr. CARTER. Mr. Speaker. I rise in support of S. 2507, Child
Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, which includes language
that I offered to stop infant formula theft.
Stolen infant formula is a major problem throughout the country,
including the State of Texas.
In 2003, international crime rings stole as much as $2.5 million
worth of baby formula a month in Texas, and testimony before Congress
revealed that some of the proceeds may go to fund terrorism.
After being stolen, the formula was stored and sometimes repackaged
with phony expiration dates, then it was sold to small convenience
stores in the United States.
This legislation requires State agencies to license and maintain a
list of infant formula manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and
retailers approved to provide infant formula to vendors.
This section closes a loophole that would allow crime rings to steal
infant formula and resell this formula to retailers, who often are
unaware that the formula was stolen.
This list would include food manufacturers, wholesalers,
distributors, and retailers licensed in the State to distribute infant
formula and food manufacturers registered with the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration that provide infant formula, with vendors required to
purchase infant formula from the list.

The stolen formula is often resold to customers using vouchers from
the federally funded Women, Infants, and Children program.
I want to thank Education and the Workforce Chairman John Boehner and
the Subcommittee on Education Reform Chairman Michael Castle, along
with this staff, Kate Howston and Stephanie Milburn for their important
work on this legislation.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I urge that my colleagues support this
important legislation."

In response to scarcity, the Biden Admin. directed states in March to relax this arrangement and reprogram to permit grocers to
accept the same authorization limited to the mandated low bid but likely unavailable, contract baby formula, to actually available
baby formula.
