TSA closes checkpoint at BWI airport, citing ‘excessive callouts’
Baltimore-Washington Marshall International Airport
The closure of airport terminals due to a shortage of federal TSA employees will increase as Trumps shutdown drones on, now in its 30th day. TSA employees are saying they can no longer afford babysitters, gasoline, train fares etc. What will it take for Donald Trump to stop treating this shutdown as some zero-sum political game? A catastrophe? Homeland terrorism? A passenger jet crash due to overworked air traffic controllers?
Trump had better think long and hard on this game of brinkmanship he is playing. When people start dying due to his callousness, there will be political hell to pay.

The Transportation Security Authority said it had closed a security checkpoint at BWI Marshall Airport Saturday evening because of a shortages of screeners. In a Twitter message sent Saturday evening the agency said it “will be exercising a contingency plan” at BWI “due to excessive callouts.” TSA is responsible for security screening of airline passengers in the United States. TSA screeners are among the federal government employees required to work during the partial shutdown of the federal government. Reports have circulated about possible staffing shortages since the shutdown began. In the release TSA said many employees were saying that they could not come to work because of financial limitations. BWI is one of three airports serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It is located between Baltimore and Washington.
