The attitude of the south really is this..

If they have to pay taxes for black peoples healthcare, in order to coequally receive their own in the same system...
Then they don't want to pay taxes for anybody's healthcare, including that of other white people...

You couldn’t be further from the truth. The combination of democracy and free market capitalism has done more to liberate individuals across the world than any other inventions in human history. Communism is the antithesis of both, and where it’s been tried at scale it’s led to nothing but human misery.

that is NOT the attitude of the south. nor is it even a reason more people don;t want UHC.

the reason more people don;t want UHC is because they are afraid the government will screw it up and make it a crap system where it takes too long to get treatment and death panels.

I am on the fence about UHC myself. think we SHOULD have coverage not tied to our work to make it easier to be mobile with our careers, and to try to negotiate down prices for medical care we have here which are sky high.

on the other hand, I don't want hospitals run like discount tire shops either... and unfortunately, even if I were persuaded, I wont support the rest of the bonkers democrat platform just for UHC.

if you EVER want UHC, you are going to have to help move the democrat party to be more moderate in their beliefs.

What about medicare? Black people are covered under that.

So whether they want to or not, they are paying taxes for black people to have health care.

Americans have been so indoctrinated with the "ME! ME! ME!": mentality that they are so afraid that someone else might get something better than what they have, that they go out of their way to make sure that nobody gets anything at all.

Thats one big way that the status quo is maintained.

Everyone who is age 65 and older qualifies for medicare.

Yes, the far right radical red states didn't expand medicaid.

Everyone pays for medicare and medicaid.

So the people in the far right radical red states do pay for black people to have health care.

Whether they like it or not.

I'm a single payer person and believe that insurance companies should not be able to dictate what care a person can receive.

That decision belongs to the patient and their doctor. Not some insurance company that only wants to pay as little as possible no matter if it hurts the patient or not.

Everyone who is age 65 and older qualifies for medicare.

That's right, it's not. Old people skew whiter than the rest of the population, and states don't have any discretion (or role) in Medicare's operation. That's why if you wanted a clearer test of whether certain states are wary of programs perceived to benefit minorities (in addition to whites!), Medicaid would be a more interesting case to look at, specifically the Medicaid expansion. And most of the old Confederacy doesn't look so hot on that score.
