Trump's Taxes: Trump argues seeing them would cause Trump irreparable harm.

It doesn't have to be anything illegal but something the democrats would use as a political tool in the election. The legal deductions he may have taken will be used as an issue by democrats whether they are legal or not.

Remember what happened to Romney?

You think the IRS would have missed that?

It's easy to miss because Trump booked a fraudulent loan in the place of the one forgiven. Examining the hotel doesn't uncover that fraud - they'd have to audit the LLC holding only the loan, and in a complex return like a hotel, it's easy to see them passing over a full examination of what looks normal to the uninformed person. From year to year the $150 million loan went to....$100 million on paper, and they'll see a payment of $50 million, so it balances. In reality it went to zero but he didn't book that. That's what tax fraud looks like and people get away with it all the time.

Depends doesn't it. Maybe they did catch it and that is why Trump doesn't want the returns made public. I don't believe it is common practice for the IRS to announce when someone messes up on their returns. That information is private between the IRS and the individual.

If IRS adjusts a return, they alert state taxing authorities to the change.
