Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Platforms has donated an eye-popping $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural committee, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Citing people familiar with the discussion, the outlet reported the promise of the paycheck came before Zuckerberg met with Trump at a November Mar-A-Lago dinner following the Republican's presidential win.

Why do we allow large (or any) donations to inaugurations? Seems like an unnecessary recipe for corruption. Why not just have the government pay for a standardized ceremony?
 
Situational extortion, that is about all "inaugural fund donations" are.
 
Public corruption is a fundamental component of American democracy.

I will give credit to Trump for exposing that truth by engaging in it openly.
 
A million dollars from Zuckerberg is not "eye-popping". It's a rounding error. It's what he found in his couch cushions.
