What was the point? He was the one who rescinded DACA protections and now offers to extend DACA for 3 years with fewer protections than before? He knew it was a dead deal before he even offered it. DACA is already tied up in the courts and with the current strain on the immigration system from the Central America humanitarian crisis, hunting down and deporting law abiding young people who were brought here illegally a decade or two ago is not going to be a big priority for the next few years. Trump's deal was on par with saying the steel slats were a concession to Democrats. There is nobody on Pelosi's side who would put pressure on her to accept such a deal, and only those firmly in Trump's base would see this as an actual attempt at compromise.

Trump is getting some really bad advice. It is really starting to show that he is surrounded only by yes men because he gained absolutely nothing with this move.

I wouldn't call this a fake deal but it's clearly a deal that Trump and the GOP leadership knew the dems wouldn't accept just like the dems knew that the GOP wouldn't accept their deal either. This was just a stunt in an attempt to shift public opinion that Trump and the republicans are more at fault for the shut down and it may very well work.

What have the Democrats offered?

It's kind of counter intuitive for a number of other reasons too:
  • Now the GOP (except Ann Coulter) is totally on board with the DACA program they HATED Obama for.
  • All of the illegals who Fox News props up killing white girls are already in this country.
  • The migrants already tunneled under a wall.

It is hard to see how. Who is left in the country who thinks Trump is trustworthy enough to make a deal with?

According to the latest polling a little less than 40% of the population.

His speech sounded like Steven Miller. The guy is a fascist.

Thre are more tunnels than Homeland Security can shake a stick at, mostly used to transport drugs. A wall is a silly, antiquated notion. We need personnel and high tech solutions.

Ask McConnell, the bill to open the government that the house passed is in his desk drawer.

That would indicate they've offered nothing.

Do you really think 500K illegal immigrants can be transported through tunnels? Do you think tunnels are easy and quick to build? Do you think they are undetectable? If walls are antiquated why are more being put up throughout the world not less.

Try a little intellectual honesty. Barriers were OK in 2006 with bi-partisan support. Now they are hated because you would rather the country suffer than give this president a "win". Sounds like pretty destructive politics.

I don't hate walls, I just don't think they're as effective as camera drones and plenty of Border Patrol officers.

The fencing we already have is helpful only to a limited degree. Three things that I think would be more effective:

1. More focus and resources in getting Americans off of the drugs that are smuggled over or under the border. Decriminalizing cannabis nationally would be a good start.

2. A more efficient work visa program for seasonal workers.

3. A less complex immigration policy with a simpler path to citizenship, one that doesn't take upwards of ten years.

The snark about my intellectual honesty was un-called for.

Walls are in fact effective, as they shift the traffic pattern to ports of entry, where there is greater chance of CBP interdiction in illegal immigration and smuggling.

While, yes, there have been tunnels discovered across the border, think of the cost and time for those tunnels to be constructed.

There's no 100% solution, but you can raise the expense to the smugglers to the point the volume is reduced, or they try a route that you can better control, such as a port of entry, for example.

Standard Trump tactic: create a problem/dilemma and then reverse oneself (wholly or partially) and claim one is solving the problem one created.

Crap deal by a sleazebag. Nothing in there worth giving in. Screw him.

I've got more important things to do. So if you don't know the answer, or are unwilling to provide it, there's no point in responding to me further.
