Trump's big announcement of the weekend (2 Viewers)

Lol, this has got you spinning like a top. Three comments on the same thing, on the same thread, in about a half hour. This is going to be entertaining to watch you continue to pepper the forum with.
Didn't want it lost on the "big beautiful bill" folk. Quite frankly I hope Johnson complies. Do you?

Does this new request potentially becoming a piece of the bill have you so animated because you recognize the Dems wouldn't be needed to pass it or is it because it would be so awkward for the Dems to vote against it - or other?
It's because throwing this in the existing bill is likely to bog it down considerably , maybe even scupper it. As it is the bill is complicated enough.

I don't know if the Congressional GOP members will want to or agree to include this or not, but I do feel VERY confident this won't scupper the bill.

l didn't mean the GOP members would scupper it but rather that the inclusion of such a complicated thing would doom the bill to failure or at the very least a very long , protracted time line.

I'm confident that won't happen. If it ends up having the potential to happen, then the GOP members of Congress and Trump, will leave it out of the bill.

IMO, your repeated thoughts about an unusual protraction for one reason or another, won't happen - but you can certainly keep expressing your wishes. ;)

One reason or another? What were my other reasons or are you as usual making things up about what I say? For what it's worth I think the GOP members may include some small non controversial thing to placate Trump but they will not include the entire proposal on drugs in this bill which is tough enough as is.

So I'm confused, is just making stuff up or is there an actual way for the President to do this?

During the Bush administration in the early 2000's, in a very controversial bill passed by Republicans, they made it illegal for Medicare to negotiate drug prices.

So, I'm not sure how an executive order can unilaterally change what prices drugs can be set at? Or is this Republican congress going to change the law? I just don't see that happening. I'm sure almost all of the republicans and most of the democrats are in the pocket of big Pharma.

Jesus, people... its complete bullshit. Its obvious.

Stop taking this stuff seriously. Pharma stocks went up 3% on the news of this 'executive order'!

I know it's bullshit. I'm pretty sure all this fake populism is just smoke screen for a tax bill that's going to royally screw over the non-rich in this country and be great for the rich and super rich.

Here is a small sampling ;)

Passed but just barely. I expect that there will be a long hard fight ahead getting to a bill that can pass. What will be really interesting is to watch and see if Trumps' strangle hold on the GOP starts to diminish if prices grow , jobs are lost or if the country goes into a recession. Trump had a huge amount of political capital going into this debacle, lets see how much he has coming out.

All politicians including Trump only have finite amounts of political capital. He is going to need every Republican to get that " big beautiful bill " passed . If a half dozen or so are feeling extreme pressure in their districts it will make passage difficult. They could also remind his tariff authorities.

Trump should be worried about that too. A Democratic controlled House will make his reign much more difficult. I also wonder what this might mean to his " big beautiful bill" as moderate Republicans in swing districts get nervous.

They ( the polls) may prompt the moderate GOP Congress critters to push back on Trump especially on the " big beautiful bill" and tariffs especially those in swing districts or districts Harris won.

All that may be true but I think cutting Medicaid expansion will seriously jeopardize the " big beautiful bill ". As it is the economic situation, unless Trump course corrects, will put many GOP Congress representatives in a difficult place. If they are in swing districts or districts Harris won they are going to be very vulnerable. On the other hand , if the cuts aren't significant the hardliners will be a problem. I think getting this bill through is going to be a tough slog.

What a total and utter waste of your time. Those are simply observations on the difficulties the GOP face in getting this bill passed, issues any thinking person would agree pose challenges. Not remotely close to what I was saying about the complexities of adding something like the control of pharma prices to an already complex and challenging bill. Pathetic but predictable.

I thought price controls were supposed to be a differentiator in the last election?
Lol, that certainly a shift of topic, from big pharma stock price moves today -------- all the way to price controls and the last presidential election. LOL.

I'll leave your price control conversation to you and others with interest.

Uh...WHAT wont scupper the bill?

Because theres literally no plan, no proposed legislation, and no real idea of how to do this, besides pretending 'most favored nation' pricing would mean something, which is literaly cant, since the net price of branded drugs is unknowable.

It was to reduce the price of pharmaceuticals by 80% almost immediately.

I understand why you might be confused, but when you take basic econ 101, it might be made clearer to you. (Econ 101 refers to a college class in economics, by the way. Generally, though, the concept of severely reduced prices should, however, be understood by people with even a rudimentary education, but one definitely will understand the underpinnings of 'why' if one can complete a basic high school or college level course on economics. Glad I can help!)
Valuable comments like this make this forum such a worthwhile and intelligent place to hang out.

You seemed quite skeptical of price controls last year when you thought they were part of Harris's agenda but not Trump's. Have a change of heart?

Its the only appropriate response to the comment that said : "did Trump announce that one of his goals with this announcement was to tank big pharma stock prices?"

Because my point that pharma went up after the announcement is a very clear signal that the entire sector recognized his annoucement was absolute bullshit.

Prescription drug and pharmaceutical prices will be reduced, almost immediately, by 30-80%.

A most favored nation policy will be instituted whereby the U.S. will pay the same price as the nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the world.

These aren't exact quotes, but a summary of what Trump's Truth posts said.
Why do you let yourself get played?

Then there is this announcement.

President Trump once again proved how stupid he is.

The emoluments clause in our Constitution prohibits federal officeholders from receiving gifts, payments, or other benefits from foreign governments without the consent of Congress.

Unfortunately, Trump is not familiar with our Constitution. Who voted for this guy? We don't know. They are not talking.

NPR reports, "While not yet finalized, the Trump administration's plan to accept a luxury plane from the Qatari government to serve as Air Force One has already drawn fierce criticism from lawmakers and independent watchdogs who say such a move violates the Constitution."

Trump's response is almost child-like and most certainly un-Presidential.

"I mean, I could be a stupid person and say, 'No, we don't want a free, very expensive airplane,' " Trump said. "But I thought it was a great gesture."

Unbelievable! It is going to be a long four years.

We'll see if this is potentially related to the China progress over the weekend.
You mean the same China progress that we go back to exactly to what we had before all this unnecessary tariff war? So our trade deal is now the same as it was during Biden. And yet we miraculously get drug reduction cost, the very drugs that are made in the US!??!

Wow!!!!!

Diving Mullah

The prescription drug prices are one of the contributing factors to American healthcare being so much more expensive. The libruls should be celebrating.

Trump is embracing the far-left Marxist economics he claimed to oppose.

Believe it when I see it.
Trump tried to do it in his first term, however the pharmaceutical companies with the help of democrat and RINO republican congress critters fought it hard as that is where a large part of their campaign funding comes from. This time the republicans are in control and the RINOs are largely sidelined.

Lol...like anything positive I'll believe it when I see it. Obviously the drug companies are ripping off the American people. How do you fix this without the gov stepping in and negotiating prices?
