There probably isn't anything more un-American for a president to do, in violation of the governing principles of the US, than a president to seize authoritarian power to occupy US cities with forced. It's never been an issue as no president has tried, and the Posse Comitatus Act was passed to prevent it..

Now, a judge ruled that trump violated that act and the law with his actions in Los Angeles. From the NY Times:
  • L.A. deployment: A federal judge in California said President Trump broke the law by deploying roughly 5,000 Marines and National Guard troops to Los Angeles in June in response to immigration protests. The judge said on Tuesday that Mr. Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the Defense Department had violated the Posse Comitatus Act, which generally prohibits using the military to enforce domestic law. • Policing crackdown: The ruling bars Mr. Trump and the Defense Department from using the troops for any law-enforcement purpose in California. But the judge noted that Mr. Trump and Mr. Hegseth have “have stated their intention” to use Guard troops as a “national police force with the president as its chief.” Gov. Gavin Newsom of California praised the decision, saying Mr. Trump’s efforts were “illegal, authoritarian, and must be stopped in every courtroom across this country.”

This will be challenged in court by the administration, of course. It will just be interesting to see how far this illegitimate SCOTUS will go in allowing a felony-convicted US president to continue on his crime spree... because, you know.... fredumbz, states' rights, limits on federal government power, and all that.

That's their whole ballgame and the source of their smugness. The expectation is the illegitimate SC will back whatever Trump wants. Don't know that they're wrong.

This SC has to go. Period.

It's been hard for years to get people to care about the corruption of the Supreme Court, when they could try to block some corrupt nominations.

It's still not easy, but a lot harder to 'fix'. If, say, Thomas were to resign, trump would just appoint a young person as bad.

Agreed. The Dems need to move the Overton window on packing the court. Honestly, they need to explain to the base and Indies that anything they want, will be terminated by this SC if they're allowed to remain.

That was the case when Biden was president; he decided not to do it. If it's done now of course trump would be adding more.

It doesn't matter what the GOP does or doesn't do anymore. We have to stop worrying about that.
