Trump: 'We have reached a deal' [to end the shutdown]

Trump removed the pressure of the shutdown and off of him and announced that the Democrats we're willing to work out a deal on border security

If Democrats refuse to honor their side of the agreement, then that's on them and Trump will still have the option of declaring a National Emergency

And Federal Workers get their backpay. Trump basically put the ball back in the Democrats court and if they refuse to negotiate, then Americans will see them for the lowlifes they are.
Dems will negotiate - in good faith, but don't expect us not to recognize the broad circumstances under which this negotiation happens. He will be offered something for physical barriers in the larger context of what we want in that immigration budget. How does say 1.7 million or even 2, sound. Its just enough to be a little more than the original offer...but not enough to represent a major compromise.

She won the battle but might not win the war.

This puts it squarely back on the Dems. Though it is kind of crappy he tried harder yhan anyone else.

And if no funding they own the next shut down and he can use national security emergency and potentially make the Dems look a lot worse

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Is that what he told you to try and save face? There is no deal. Democrats have already passed the bill containing their final offer multiple times.

False. Politicians are always in agreement to try and work out deals. That isn't a thing. It's just what Trump has to say to people like you to make it look like he didn't just cave massively. There will be no wall. Democrats have already offered some additional defense funding, but it is not to be allocated for a wall and never will be.

Basically, Trump wanted to get the fact that Roger Stone has been indicted out of the headlines so he decided that it was better to lose badly twice in one day than it was to lose today, and then again next week. Of course, he's going to lose something else next week anyway.

First, no one cares about the made for TV event that was the raid on Roger Stone's House
CNN being tipped off of what was a FBI paramilitary raid on a 66 year old man for process crimes is the real story

You people really need to start applying the 48 hour rule when anytime a new story is released that predicts Trump's iminent demise.
After that BuzzFeed fiasco, you would think that you've eaten enough crow to force you to use basic critical thinking skills to vet breaking news

For example, Cohen wouldn't be facing three years if he really had that kind of dirt on Trump. But you people swallowed that fake news hook line and sinker

Second, the Democrats have three weeks and if they refuse to honor their commitment, then Americans will see them for the lowlifes they are, and Trump still has the option of declaring a National Emergency

Federal workers go back to work and gee back pay also

This was nothing more than today's round of government idiocy.

Trump and Republicans caved, nothing more nothing less.

All this really did was kick the can down the road 3 weeks to a probable 2nd shutdown over the same thing, since we have no real indication that all of a sudden Trump will get his wall and/or that Democrats will get permanent DACA in exchange for.

Today's events are not a power play, or "the art of the deal," or whatever other nonsense we come up with. Trump and Republicans ended up failing in their efforts to hold government employees hostage.

Hahah, he took Nancy's deal, just ****ing admit it!

Trump shuts down government and demands wall funding to end shutdown.
Nancy demands government re-open, and negotiations continue.

Trump just took Nancy's deal.

Is that what he said ? Newp. We'll see if he took their deal or not, but the Democrats have three weeks to show Americans that they care about securing our Southern border

Her deal was to re-open government now, and negotiate border security separately.

Yeah, that's what he agreed to! Government re-opened, continuing to debate border security. Clear as day.

This is the SAME DEAL they offered him 35 days ago!!

Now he's never going to get his ****ing wall.

If that were the case ( it's not ) then there would be no need to set a 3 week timetable for negotiations.

What he did was put the ball back in the Democrats court when he announced they were willing to work out a deal for border security.
. He also removed any pressure of the shutdown off of himself.

If Democrats go back on their word, then that's on them. They've got three weeks, and Trump still will have the option of declaring a National emergency

He ended up with less than he would have had if he'd never shut the government down in the first place. Taking hostages is always a bad idea, and Trump has apparently learned that the hard way.

In no way can this be even remotely spun as a win for Trump. This is by far the worst political loss of his presidency, and anything other than repentance is just going to make things worse for him and his party going forward. I think Pelosi is secretly hoping he retaliates. I wouldn't be surprised if she baits him again. He's just dumb enough to take it and fall into another trap.

So negotiated less than he would have gotten 36 days ago. All he did was cause a whole bunch of pain for a whole bunch of people for nothing.
Maybe he will shut it down again on 2/15 because of what....nothing.
This is disgusting.

Agreed. He is such a fool.

Nope. He caved. Pelosi dominated his ass. :spank:

Wow, if the shutdown ends under these terms, Pelosi spanked him, spanked him bad.

It's going to be hilarious watching his supporters trying to paint this as a Trump victory. :)

But before we celebrate, let's hope Coulter or Hannity don't decide to kaibosh the deal. Or Fox and Friends.

Exactly what I've said about the ball is on the liberal/Demos' side and of course they will fumble crossing the goal line. After this reprieve the liberal/Demos will not negotiate and the shutdown will continue w/out any end in sight. They can stop this all together. The fear is there. The paychecks will stop and there will be no catching up with the bills and such. I hope our President stays on course with no "Rogers being arrested " obstacle standing in the way.

This is a CR, a 'continuing resolution', a temporary fix. The bill hasn't been finalized, this is only a temporary fix. NOW maybe we'll see Mitch McConnell re-emerge from his turtle-shell and do what he's supposed to do.

The dems have 3 weeks, or this begins again and this time, Trump won't own it.

Tim-

THIS.

Trump ain't done yet... He ain't caving in one bit by allowing this three week CR...

Zero funding for the wall and the shutdown is poised to end. Trump boxed himself in and Pelosi's Democrats would not let him out!

Don't get too excited.

JUST IN: "We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier. If we don't get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shutdown on February 15 again or I will use the powers afforded to me…to address this emergency."

Bottom line: Trump is giving the Dems just a little bit more rope to hang themselves with.

Exactly this... Trump is being more than reasonable here... He showed (with initiating the shutdown) that he was serious about the border wall funding, and is now allowing House Dems three weeks to get their **** together and come up with an acceptable budget.

Three weeks will give tRump's bottom enough time to heal from that spanking that Pelosi just gave him.

He'll get at least $5.7B...maybe even more and whatever fixed structure that comes out of this WON'T be referred to as a wall. Border fencing, border panels, border thickets...whatever, but it won't be framed as a wall. Believe that!

Trump's new friend showed all those scary-ass Republicans who either ran from Trump by not running for re-election or who got their butts handed to them in their re-election bid how it's done! You go, girl!! :lamo :july_4th:

There's no way he's trying this again in three weeks. He saw his ratings tank and backed off. He's talking tough to save face, like a whipped schoolyard bully shouting, "I'll get you next time," as he tucks tail and runs. He will not stake his presidency on another such disaster.

The wall ended here today.

Yes, he will. Trump caved, and he's going to have to cave again. He doesn't have the votes, and he has nothing to offer Democrats that would even kind of be worth it.

He played all of his cards and he lost. Face it...if declaring a national emergency was such a HUGE Trump card, he would have used it. But he didn't. Why? Because it would've meant he would've been exposed as a terrible negotiator AND the government would've reopened WITHOUT any guarantee he could divert funds from other federal agencies WITHOUT facing legal scrutiny and risking further backlash.

Trump gambled and he lost. HE CAVED. He tried to :spin: it as if he relented for the sake of dutiful federal employees, but they'll remember what he did and was willing to do for the sake of his own ego. This is a battle he lost BIGLY! The lesson here is this...

ALWAYS STAND UP TO BULLIES AND TYRANNY!

The most accurate post today. This, 100%. He slunk away, and he won't make the same mistake twice. Maybe the idiot has finally realized he needs a lot more than his base to win again in 2020.

I'll grant you 90% of the above. Many Trump haters are absolutely giddy over Stone, mostly for no real reason (so far.) That's almost as shameful as Stone's actual crimes (I'm assuming quite unfairly he's guilty as sin.)

Second, the Democrats have three weeks and if they refuse to honor their commitment, then Americans will see them for the lowlifes they are, and Trump still has the option of declaring a National Emergency

What commitment? They've been negotiating this whole time. A few more weeks probably won't change much.

Nothing in the basic dynamic has changed. Trump doesn't have the support he needs to pull this off, whereas there is ample support in Congress to pass a resolution with border security funding, but short his wall demands. That's something everyone can agree on except Trump.

If Trump's shutdown "plan" was working, why take the pressure off?

Why not pull the trigger on his national emergency option if it's such a sure thing?

If he forces a shutdown again, it will go the same way, though possibly faster, as even Trump is capable of learning (I assume.)

The dems have 3 weeks, or this begins again and this time, Trump won't own it.

Tim-

Oh, Timmy, he will not "own it" because he fails to take responsibility for any of his screw ups. His superpower is to blame others for his screw ups.

Why is Stone's age relevant?

"Process crimes". Today's alt-right talking point. I love it. Love it!
