Trump To Sign Executive Orders Protecting Preexisting Conditions

Man, is this the healthcare reform everyone's been waiting for? It's interesting to see that after 8 years of complaining, the GOP has done little else but critique the ACA without floating any real alternatives. Trump's supposed "beautiful healthcare plan" is just a bunch of vaporware.

I mean, the only thing that could go wrong with the plan is Democrats in Congress refusing to pass the legislation out of spite.

The EOs basically put everything in the hands of Congress. With a great deal of pressure from HHS.
Democrats already passed legislation that covered pre-existing conditions and it's an actual law instead of a toothless EO.

Tired of executive orders. Each branch of government is dysfunctional. In order of ****ed up-ness 1) Congress 2) The Judiciary 3) Executive Branch. Its neck and neck with each branch having the ability to surge ahead.

Raw story covered this.

President Donald Trump’s healthcare plan was blasted Thursday for pushing things that are already in place, taking credit for past laws and making grand announcements that Trump will never be able to ensure actually happen. It took Trump five years to come up with this healthcare “plan.”

To start, Trump began by making the same promise that President Barack Obama did – “If you like your doctor you can keep them.” The regulation of which doctors are covered under healthcare plans aren’t handled by the government as individual insurance companies make their own corporate decisions about which doctors are covered under their plans.

He also declared that every patient would have access to their healthcare records, something that is already in place under HIPPA laws. With very few exceptions, HIPAA gives every American access to their records upon request.

Trump also announced that his executive order would officially make it the policy of the U.S. government to support coverage of pre-existing conditions. It’s already a law unless Trump can get the Supreme Court to strike down the Affordable Care Act. All an executive order would do is mandate it for government plans, not for the rest of the American people.

What exactly would you like Trump to do, specifically? Besides keep the ACA, which prevents working class Americans from being able to afford premiums, deductibles, and co-pays?

If you cared about preexisting conditions, this EO announcement would be good news.

The reason it is bad news is that you are using the issue to try to get Biden into office.

Not surprising that liberals are using a political issue and pretending they care, when they only need it to get them into power.

You have it backwards, millions of working class Americans have been able to get health insurance under the ACA that were not able to get it before.

The EO is just a political stunt for weak minds that are stupid enough to believe everything Trump says. The only true impact of the EO is to waste a piece of paper.

"President Donald Trump will sign a series of executive orders aimed at protecting people with preexisting conditions and look for a way to prevent surprise medical bills, senior administration officials said Thursday.

Trump is expected to discuss the executive orders, which are part of his “America First” health-care plan, during his visit to Charlotte, North Carolina later Thursday, the officials said.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told reporters on a conference call that one of the orders would declare it the policy of the United States to “provide protections to ensure that Americans with preexisting conditions are protected regardless of whether the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional and its protections for preexisting conditions invalidated.”

“The president is also taking action to protect surprise billing, a source of financial insecurity for all Americans who do have insurance that has gone unaddressed for two years now,” he said.

Liberals are going to have a difficult time continuing to argue that this is all a facade, and some kind of right-wing conspiracy to fool people into believing pre-existing conditions will be protected. Or that Trump, Cruz, and Rubio have been lying for four years about their intentions.

All we have to do is point to their healthcare plan. Which doesn’t exist. They have been lying otherwise we would have a healthcare plan instead of a toothless EO and deal a meal cards for seniors.

No, he's not that stupid. Trump can (and probably will) do exactly what Azar said - the only problem is the order won't actually do anything.
Like his EO on evictions, big nothing burger, but the fan club loves them anyway.

???

The President cannot draft a bill, Vegas.

Separation of powers.

The most he can do is use HHS to pressure legislators to draft and pass a bill. Which is the intention of these EOs.

As long as Dems cooperate, there should be no problem.
So his statement means Nothing, glad to see you know that.

Reading ReubenSherr I understand how grifters are able to con marks out of lots of money and how students were scammed to take overpriced but worthless lessons at Trump university.

I just can’t understand how magathals dispense with critical thinking and can’t identify obvious lies. It’s as if they want to believe the lies. Don’t the marks ever realize they’ve been conned?

ol this is going to piss the left off with a level never seen before.

this meaningless EO has already accomplished what it was intended to.

trick some dummies into thinking Trump did something.
the eo did exactly what it was designed to do.
either democrats play ball or eat a ton of shit before the election for not protecting what they have been howling about for 4 years.

once again trump has outmaneuvered the left.

The EO is meaningless. It has no power. The only one outmaneuvered is you. And of course the other mindless followers of Der Trump.

Simply put, No, they don't know nor do they want to know.

The way Azar explained the orders is that they don't do anything concrete. They direct HHS to work with Congress to get something passed in those areas and if not passed by January 1 HHS will investigate what regulatory actions can be taken.

But the executive orders themselves do not actually do anything to stop surprise medical bills or protect pre-existing conditions the way Azar explained them.
So please explain how the Obama Dream Act Executive Order was legal?

So please explain how the Obama Dream Act Executive Order was legal?
Well it must be since the Dems, Repubs and even trump have said they support it and that it needs to be finalized....unfortunately trump uses it as a hostage to try and get other things so we will have to wait for the Dems to deal with it

Seems to me that Trump is desperate, and as usual, living in his own fantasy world where he is the hero and everyone kisses his ass. Preexisting conditions were already covered under President Obama's ACA, and Trump is trying to completely destroy that. Only fools drunk on KoolAid take that clown seriously.

...Only fools drunk on KoolAid take that clown seriously, mad dogs, Englishmen and Trump supporters.

I am just glad Trump is continuing to work on the problem. A true leader doesn't give up. I am also glad Trump stopped the fining or people who cannot afford health care.

Everything is in the hands of Congress. Trump’s stunt is nothing but pure propaganda. If he wanted to protect ACA or any part of it, he wouldn’t be trying to get is shredded in the courts
