She added: “Tomorrow is the anniversary of the D-Day invasion. We obviously have a very long history with the government of Germany, and we have a strong relationship with the government.”

~ North Korea and China are not US allies. America has been a sucker to Germany and France for decades - and look how they respond when called out.
Some allies they turned out to be. Next time they are in trouble they can call Russia.
As for "stupid tariffs " - can you think of a better way of getting China to obey trade agreements/law with the US ? Go to https://www.whitehouse.gov/ and leave your suggestions*.

If she were talking about the relationship with Germany after WW2 then it wouldn't sound as odd as linking the US relationship with Germany during WW2 when we were at war with its government.
