Trump Will End California’s Authority to Set Stricter Auto Emissions Rules - The New York Times
Surely, this unilateral action by the Federal Government will outrage Republicans across the country.

This will never survive judicial review.
BTW, what happened to conservative support of states rights, or that is only applied to defend racism and bigotry?
Did you read the article? This has nothing to do with "state's rights". California never had a "right". All they had was a "waiver". That waiver is being removed.
As I said in that other thread on this topic a week or so back: The lord giveth and the lord taketh away. In this case, the federal government calls the shots.

I don't see vehicle emissions in the enumerated powers, so doesn't that mean its the states or the people who retain that power!
On a more basic level, why do this? The auto companies are ok with this, California and apparently other states are. What is the theory behind this move? If I were arguing for it, I would say that there should be one national standard set by the government and not states, and that would be a defensible argument. But in a larger sense, there seems to have been a more or less bipartisan consensus on the environment over the past decades, one which the rest of the world seems to share, leaving aside the portion of the GOP that doesn't believe in human-caused climate change. Why does Trump seem to reject the environmental consensus wholesale? What gives?
Donald Trump thinks that he can govern by executive order as a dictatorial fantasy because he refuses to work with Congress, by the courts won't let him. He needs to show just cause for this action and there is nothing to show. The automakers and the state oppose this action and it will end up in the courts. Trump will lose in the courts.

You have two things wrong...
1. It's actually Congress that refuses to work with the President.
2. Trump will win in the courts because what he's doing is in accordance with established law.

Trump cannot work with people because he has never learned how and his ego won't let him. he wants fealty. He doesn't understand that Congress doesn't work for him and he cannot make demands on what they do. He expects to act as a corporate CEO or a dictator and Congress won't play that way so he thinks that he can govern by executive order that is outside the scope of Congress. The Founding Fathers were very clear that the executive branch is the least powerful so it cannot become a king or dictator.
Donald Trump is doing this because Barack Obama did it and his goal is to wipe Obama from history because of his racist temper tantrum. Obama hilariously roasted Trump to his face at the White House press corps dinner in 2011 and Trump has been obsessed with revenge ever since.
Conservative "principles" only matter when a Democrat is president. When a Republican does it it's magically "different" or it's the same but OK because they have accused a Democrat of doing it previously.
See what I mean?
Just like deficits only matter to the republicans when the president is a democrat.
blah, blah, blah...
You are dismissed.
Winner winner chicken dinner!
Not sure if it would have mattered if Obama had not roasted him. He's obsessed with trying to one-up Obama and just about anyone else that disagrees with him.
Sadly for him, it will never happen. He doesn't have the intellect nor the brains.
Your capitulation is noted. There is no reason to do what Trump is doing except for his micron thick skin and his outside racist ego. The courts will see though his nonsense when California and other states file an injunction and the judges will stike this EO down

I believe Trump is wrong and violating California's sovereignty.Trump Will End California’s Authority to Set Stricter Auto Emissions Rules - The New York Times

They loved the commerece clause when it forced obamacare onto states. Now they sct offended that avrepublicsn president is using federsl authority to override something they want. I dont blame them for being upset but really who cares, i dont.Did you read the article? This has nothing to do with "state's rights". California never had a "right". All they had was a "waiver". Congress passes laws that affect the entire country.
In this case, it's environmental laws. They passed laws requiring the EPA to set and enforce emission standards but gave them the power to give any state a waiver from federal standards so they can set their own. This is all perfectly constitutional, as is the EPA taking the step to rescind that waiver.
If you don't like it, sue Congress.
