His supporter dont cares about his lies or policy failures as long as Trump continues to attack their common enemies and to legitimize their racism/bigotry/ xenophobia/homophobia/misogyny they will defend anything that he does. You dont want to have to address his lies so you attack any member of the press that asks tough questions. This is why the First Amendment contains that freedom and protections of the 4th estate because the stability of the nation rests on a proper and free press that can report all the news and not just the propaganda that they want to tell you.
