Trump supporters rip Chicago mayor to his face just before City Council rejects his tax hike

I can feel a change in the air already and Trump hasn't even taken office yet. (but... but... but... you elected a rapist and convicted felon!)

One man stepped up to the mic wearing a black MAGA hat with red letters and asked the chamber, 'How does it feel that Trump is in office right now?'

Ahead of a Chicago City Council vote unanimously rejecting Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposed $300 million property tax hike, local residents addressed the council and the mayor, criticizing Johnson to his face over trying to raise taxes while catering to illegal immigrants.

Among these angry locals were several supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, who, while wearing MAGA gear, gloated about how Trump’s victory means Johnson’s liberal policies – particularly those assisting illegal immigrants – will face a reckoning.

"The feds need to address you! The DOJ needs to address you! And hopefully Donald Trump will address you, because you’re gonna protect the undocumented, while you’re gonna allow for the citizens in Chicago suffer under your, what? Three percent?" Chicago resident Tyjuan Sims told the mayor on Thursday night.

Nobody likes a tax increase, but then again, nobody likes potholes and collapsing bridges.

Decisions...decisions

If you keep putting necessary maintenance and repairs off, eventually the chicken comes home to roost.

As a former condo board member, I learned that first hand.

I’d say a guy going on about Trump being in office right now at a Chicago local meeting is a wacko, yeah.

It’s a local meeting about local issues and Trump isn’t yet in office. Nor will Trump have any say, ever, about local property taxes in Chicago.

The question is: why is this big city stuck between potholes and sky-high taxes, while also having a very high crime rate? Seems like an odd dilemma for a big city which should in theory benefit from economies of scale in both its expenditures and policing efficiency.

I’ve watched MAGA types attend township committee meetings here for years. Screeching about one thing or another. And repeatedly lose elections when they run because they are incapable of governing and go on about national issues that have no local relevance.

Chicago will figure out their budget or they won’t.

Guys in MAGA hats talking about Trump during public comment will have no impact on that. The man’s comments were irrelevant to the subject at hand and demonstrated such.

Cheer them if you like, but they aren’t fixing a budget.
