Trump sells Qatar $12 billion of U.S. weapons days after accusing it of funding terrorism
While President Trump berates Qatar for sponsoring terrorism at the highest levels, he is simultaneously authorizing the country to purchase over $21 billion of U.S. weapons.
One part of the deal was inked on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., when Qatar's Defense Minister met with U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis.
"We are pleased to announce today the signing of the letter of offer and acceptance for the purchase of the F-15QA fighter jets, with an initial cost of $12 billion dollars," read the Qatari Defense Minister's statement on Wednesday afternoon. "We believe that this agreement will propel Qatar's ability to provide for its own security while also reducing the burden placed upon the United States military in conducting operations against violent extremism."
The Qatari ambassador to the U.S. tweeted a photo of the signing.

The full arms sale, of over $20 billion, was notified in November 2016. This means it had already been authorized by congress and the executive branch, when President Obama was in office, before the Trump administration came into office.

Obama initiated this deal and his Congress approved it over a year ago. President Trump wasn’t even in the picture.

Business is business. Foreign policy is foreign policy. No reason they can't coexist.

Yes, brilliant, our arms dealing and violence fomenting IS utterly bipartisan. Now what?
We also just sold the Wahabist Saudis $110B worth of arms. Wahabists mind you, and we can’t figure out where terrorism comes from. We partnered with Saddam. We partnered with Osama. We partnered with the Taliban and ISIS. We supply the Wahabist Saudis with the cluster bombs, known to have a 90% collateral casualty rate in the field, that they rain down on Yemen. We sold North Korea nuclear reactors a mere two years before we placed them on an “axis of evil” list; sold from a company Rumsfeld had once sat on the board of directors of. That was bipartisan as well, initiated under Clinton, followed through on under Bush, with Bush ponying up US taxpayer funding to assist North Korea in completing the deal. War, global occupation and arms dealing is just business in america and utterly bipartisan, just like the societal wealth redistribution to the substantial people.
Sure he is. He said Qatar was sponsoring terrorism at the highest level.
Was he wrong, or right?
Unless Obama did it
He did do it, it's buried in the damn story, you didn't bother to read.
He and congress approved this.

I didn't say that nor would I. My comment was non partisan.
The way I see it, even if we assume Qatar does fund terrorists. Isn’t it better to take away those funds by selling them jets, that they will never use...they would hardly get off the asphalt before they get blown to pieces. Ducks in a barrel if they even have the fortitude to man the Cockpit.

Does this mean the tone of post #1 will have to remain symmetrical with respects to critique of Obama and the Democrats with the signing of this deal with Qatar?
"Principles over personalities." That does not exist in American political culture. The two-party system is the Packers against the Vikings, Sunni vs Shia, Northern Ireland Ulster Protestants vs Catholics, and it runs the inverse in which personalities are placed above principles.
American politics is for the birds. It's run off of money and inflamed emotions.
And these governments of the world act like juveniles in Chicago gangs that are financially motivated in the drug business. I mean... while I don't put it past Qatar supporting Sunni extremists (though I like the peaceful, advance society of Qatar so much that I hope they never have), that Saudi Arabia would point the finger at them is the height of hypocrisy. I mean... you can hardly get more 16 year-old Chicago gang banger than that.
I like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, especially the former, of the UAE too. So, I was disheartened to hear they are (or possibly are) involved in financing Sunni extremists (terrorists). I am holding out hope those are false accusations.
Of course, our major industries couldn't be about helping each other, about healing the sick and injured, creating biotic arms, trying to find ways to restore sight to the blind, building up healthy infrastructures across the world.
Well... I have to credit Qatar and the UAE for actually having done a lot for their own citizens in those ways. The development in those nations have been astonishing.
I'm really getting irked by the military weapons industry.
