Trump says he will not give State of the Union until after shutdown ends
As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address. I agreed. She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative - I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over. I am not looking for an alternative venue for the SOTU Address because there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber. I look forward to giving a “great” State of the Union Address in the near future!

There you have it. Pelosi changed her mind.

She put his balls in her purse. :lamo:lamo:lamo

Meh.

Someone probably had to explain that they could literally lock him out....

Honestly, though, this is all a giant distraction. (I'm grinning, though). He took hostages and issued demands. This cannot keep happening. Same thing with the attempt to defund Obamacare, just a different direction. This isn't governance. It's much bigger than a wall or DACA at this point (though full DACA for wall would be fine w/me) at this point.

There are a minimum of two points he can do this again if he wins now:

- debt ceiling within several months (I ...think)
- Budget cycle (last).

He even has less of a reason to worry about reactions if he has no intention of running. Rather, going back to bankrupting casinos or whatever awesome stuff the rich get up to.

The criminal in chief got so freaking owned.

Perhaps she will also change her mind (again?) on the "morality" of physical barriers on the border. If not then she should initiate legislation to have them removed.

Nice try but no enchilada.

Until Anne Coulter tells him to have it on the original date.

Laura Ingraham is first out the gate with saying POTUS made bad move. When the fork will these people realize, he sucks at the President thing?

-- Donald Trump (Part I of his tweet; Part II of his tweet)

  1. Donald Trump didn't write those tweets.
  2. Why does that man on Twitter issue official responses to a formal letter? Has the WH run out of stationery, toner, ink, pens, etc. due to the shutdown?

This is what he should have done from the get-go, force her hand and then take the higher ground.

What strikes me in the Pelosi-Trump "duel" is that even as a POTUS has more power (political and practical) than the Speaker of the House, she still is making him look weaker than dishwater.

I wouldn't count on Trump sticking with this (no address), because Trump is erratic as hell.

But it does seem like she slapped him. I'm a bit surprised he folded.

But I've got to admit, that when you're holding a losing hand as seen by the cards on the board, and every time you bluff your opponent immediately comes across twice as hard, it can cause trepidation in continuing to bluff!

Yeah, but I don't think he has it in him.

To use a poker metaphor.....he shoved half his stack in pre-flop with 7-2, hoping for a good result, and when the flop came up A-A-A, he knew in his heart she was holding the last A. Folding was his only option.

Almost none of that made sense to me, but the last sentence said more than enough for me to suss the nature of the stuff that's "Greek" to me.

Yes, but you're speaking in general terms. In this specific incident, Trump is holding a losing hand. The best he can do is bluff, or go down swinging until he hits the mat.

I've often heard that one of the most important life skills is knowing which battles to fight, and which to walk away from. This shutdown would seem to be a prime example of this theory.

Yeah, but I don't think he has it in him.
If he were a smart politician, he'd have taken the higher ground, waited this out, and then made her look really small for it during the rescheduled SotU with her standing right behind him. Too late now, he already went down to her level by canceling that flight.

But it gets even worse for this poor poker player. Besides the loss of this hand, if he cannot win this month-long tournament, the guys that bankrolled him won't do it anymore! :2razz:
