Donald Trump says he will force Mexico to pay for a border wall as president by threatening to cut off the flow of billions of dollars in payments that immigrants send home to the country, an idea that could decimate the Mexican economy and set up an unprecedented showdown between the United States and a key diplomatic ally.In a two-page memo to The Washington Post, Trump outlined for the first time how he would seek to force Mexico to pay for his 1,000-mile border fence, which Trump has made a cornerstone of his presidential campaign and which has been repeatedly scoffed at by current and former Mexican leaders.
The proposal would jeopardize a stream of cash that many economists say is vital for Mexico’s struggling economy. But the feasibility of Trump’s plan is unclear both legally and politically, and also would test the bounds of a president’s executive powers in seeking to pressure another country.

Hey, all you trumpkies, your man is a moron. This isn't legal, diplomatically smart or even doable. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I don't know if it isn't legal, but it's not smart.
It could spur an even greater migration wave.

It would collapse the US economy... the US credibility would take a massive hit and funds would flow out to avoid similar consequence for other places Trump hates... lets start a list.

UK due to Scotland pissing him off
China cause you know
Most of the Middle East...
Most of Europe cause we hate him

I doubt it would collapse the economy.
Just speculation though.

You're like our Donald Trump on this forum Pete, that's how I see you at least.

If this is real and Trump is somehow elected... we are in real trouble.

He's a self identified republican, what do you expect?

Donald Trump explained this morning why he has identified more with Democrats in the past and his example was that Republicans caused the financial crisis of 2008. Seriously? Oh it gets worse. He actually said he doesn’t think Democrats would have ever done such a thing.

Trump is whatever he needs to be to get his goals. He would have run as a Democrat if he believed he had an issue like immigration to fire things up. Your smugness is as misplaced as votes for Trump.

That's like a giant beating on a mouse.

Economic trade war HG. Lots of materials from around the world flow to and from Mexico across our border. Let's just say Trump get's his way and Mexico stops all traffic at the border. That would be very bad.

Don't worry it won't happen.
Even if he were elected.

He'd be a lame duck.

Any economy runs on trust. If Trump could stop outflows of private citizens of a country for political purposes then what would stop him doing it against anyone that pisses him off? And we are not talking about a small economy or small number of people.. we talking about millions of people and billions of dollars each month. Oh lets not forget it could also effect American companies who have factories in Mexico.. but hey shh about that.

Point is the trust aspect. It might happen, but I will admit that the chances are slim simply because Trump most likely legally cant do it. But it is scary as hell that a man who wants the top job in the world is willing to do this, use nukes and ban a whole religion from a country......

Not endorsing the idea, but we have a Gift tax in place for international money transfers already, so you could change the rate to 100%, but not sure what flexability the IRS has in having a dynamic-by-country tax table. Seems like that would just change the behavior of the person sending the money to utilize a 3rd party country to get around it(although that would trip up money laundering laws).

I think at this point, it's all fantasy stuff.

Your contention here is that every Republican is an "idiot"? I think you and the Donald may have more in common than you think.
