The friction came to a head in early 2017 when senior officials offered Trump charts and graphics laying out the numbers and showing a “hockey stick” spike in the national debt in the not-too-distant future. In response, Trump noted that the data suggested the debt would reach a critical mass only after his possible second term in office.

“Yeah, but I won’t be here,” the president bluntly said, according to a source who was in the room when Trump made this comment during discussions on the debt.

Not only typical of this narcissist to not care about the burdens the future will face, but also typical of his generation. Spend all you can and live it up now. Don't bother thinking about the legacy you're living to your children.

Our whole society is living on borrowed time, energy and resources that will not be regenerated, and our government is OK with that.

We elected a man that had no problem with "when things don't work out, declare bankruptcy and walk away"..... he wants the upside and wants others to deal with the downside. Similarly, he will take credit for an uptick in the Dow, but offloads the blame when it downticks.

That American voters should have been more astute.

That kind of thinking is hardly unique to Trump. That's pure Republican logic. Obliterate the economy, let a Democratic administration clean up the mess, blame the Democrat for not cleaning it up instantaneously, then put in another Republican.

Rinse and repeat.

It's the same selfish cynicism one sees in AGW deniers. It's not that they have convinced themselves they are capable of forming a relevant opinion on it but instead that they simply don't care: when the **** really hits the fan, someone else will be standing in front of it. They'll be six feet under.
