Trump has repeatedly denied reports that he offered senior aides pardons to stop undocumented immigrants from coming into the United States or to expedite construction of a border wall. But a former top official at the Department of Homeland Security — who has become a Trump critic trying to derail his reelection — says Trump did offer pardons to immigration officials in a new advertisement designed to offer counter-messaging to the Republican National Convention.

“It was April of 2019. We were down at the border, and the president said to the senior leadership of the Homeland Security Department behind the scenes we should not let anyone else into the United States,” Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff at DHS, said. “Even though he'd been told on repeated occasions that the way he wanted to do it was illegal, his response was to say, do it. If you get in trouble, I'll pardon you."

Taylor said the president told the staff, “the bins are full." “The president offered to pardon U.S. government officials for breaking the law to implement his immigration policy,” Taylor
said in the new ad.Taylor is among a chorus of loosely affiliated Republican critics who are trying to stop the president’s reelection. The president has said he does not know Taylor, who was in a number of Oval Office meetings, according to other officials.

Now, we already know what the Trumpists are going to say because they say it about everything Trump does that is bad.

But damn, in any other time, this alone would probably lead to impeachment. It's insanely corrupt. Literal tin pot behavior.

He's offered to pay the legal and medical expenses for his followers who commit assault. That's the kind of guy he is -- and always will be.

The constitution is an impediment to Trump making America great again.

Did you read the report?
"Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff at DHS, said. “Even though he'd been told on repeated occasions that the way he wanted to do it was illegal, his response was to say, do it. If you get in trouble, I'll pardon you."

I think it kinda is similar; at least to Trump’s addled brain.....

They are probably going to say "but those illegals are breaking the law anyway!" without seeing the irony.

They'll just say it's a hoax because he doesn't like Trump.

It's the thought experiment that nobody asked for or wanted: what happens when you give a criminal effectively infinite power to pardon people for Federal crimes? And here's the answer that absolutely nobody needs: you get a criminal who orders people to commit crimes on his behalf.

Good for Trump.

Why is it illegal to stop illegals from entering the country?

If he loses, he'll probably step down the day before inauguration and have Pence pardon him.

But maybe he'll just be dumb enough to pardon himself and gamble that it'll stand.

I can see the eyes rolling and feet shuffling as Trump said that. People glancing at each other thinking, "Does he expect us to believe that?"

That's not paying legal expenses.

I was talking about his early (2016 campaign) rally rhetoric. It's part of a pattern.

Your first scenario is something we've imagined happening for quite some time. The only flaw in the logic is that it requires Trump to make himself vulnerable to Pence and to trust him with his freedom.

I guess we'll have to wait to see how it plays out, but I don't see trump willingly making himself vulnerable like that, not even to a toady with absolutely zero spine like Pence.

Worked all night on that one, I presume.

If you wanted a long and thoughtful answer, ask a question that merits a long and thoughtful response.

At the fall of many modern regimes, the underlings asked for written and signed orders ................

Strike 2.

Your question contains the false assumption that any act that stops an illegal action is automatically legal. That is of course hilariously wrong and if you were to act on that belief, you'd find yourself in prison before the end of the day.

Thinking trump has committed several acts that would call for impeachment under normal circumstances, but that said, there isn't time and even if the House did so the Senate would run another kangaroo Court and the POS would get off again. Best idea is vote him and them out of office, and if by some weird quirk trump did get re-elected the House can then call for impeachment at a time the Senate balance is better.

Why do you hate laws?

I know you're required to say something to deflect, but take it from me: that quarter-assed attempt to reframe the issue is too damn stupid to work. But hey you got a reply telling you about how stupid it was, so....win?

Strike 3. Thanks for playing. Enjoy your lovely parting gift.

What a lazy question. There is nothing illegal about stopping illegal immigrants from entering the country per se, but there are legal and illegal methods that can be implemented in doing so. Clearly, we are discussing in this thread illegal methods and The President's promises to pardon those acts. Had you read the article and the OP, you would have known that. Instead, you lazily asked why it is illegal to prevent something illegal.

Well, yeah, I don't expect impeachment to actually work. But impeachment absolutely would happen in the past.

Lying under oath about a beej is nothing compared to this.
