His reputation took a severe hit by his miserably lousy birthday parade, combined with the No Kings rallies. He might see a war as necessary to restore his image now, and to get some revenge on the army for sabotaging his glorious birthday parade by making it incredibly lousy and boring. A war would divert all eyes away from what he does internally. A war is also a very good and useful national crisis to milk. There is alot that Stephen Miller and his friends can milk from a good long and bloody war.
 
If he goes to war, I will do what I can to be good to those military folks caught up in it but I will regard the war as an entirely pointless exercise of a right wing authoritarian going after a right wing authoritarian. It will not be an experience like 9/11 where the nation felt the need to pull together.

I think this is probably the thing.

9/11 shocked most everyone. 24 years on, all the lies exposed, Trump at the wheel, only likely outcome is Trumpers rediscover their faith in Trump, again.
 
I do not agree. If he puts boots on the ground I think some of his base will revolt. You can only break so many promises before people stop agreeing with you. His major promises of lowering food costs and the cost of gas have gone bottom up, the only promise he kept is deporting people and that isn't going over great either.
 

They could - and I think would - float the idea of 'postponing' elections, particularly if there were any terror attacks on the homeland.

Trump speaks the language of contradictions because he knows his legions of blind devotees will support him no matter what he says or does - until he screws them personally. Then it matters for some reason.
 
If the US goes to war with Iran, I predict there will be a sudden marked increase in trans servicemembers.

Somebody in the Trump administration has to be aware that Iran is far stronger than Iraq was in 2003, when the U.S. started the war with Iraq.

The Iraq War lasted eight years.

In the current Israel/Iran war Iran's ground units, armored units, air force, and naval units have not been touched. She still has plenty of ballistic missiles and drones. She controls terrorist organizations in Gaza, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Afghanistan, and other Islamic states. She can shut off the oil passing through the Straight of Hormuz in a heartbeat.

Does Trump really want to shake this hornets nest?

When it comes to command of America's military, Trump is clueless.

Plus, he does not listen to anyone. His cabinet consists of fools, picked because of their loyalty, not their expertise. If Trump is dumb enough to get us involved in a Middle East war, America will be in big trouble.

Trump has rejected the intelligence from his director of intelligence because he did not like the intell. He cannot provide a basis for his rejection. For a President to reject intell because he doesn't like it is very dangerous.

With a remarkable lack of insight Trump says he will not use ground troops if he bombs Iran. The dumb-ass doesn't have a choice. The sixth grader next door knows we already have ground troops in the Middle East -- 40,000 of them to be exact.

Our commander, Trump, does not know this, but our ground units are well within range of Iran's ballistic missiles or are vulnerable to terrorist organizations controlled by Iran.

As the overall commander of military operations, Trump is either very stupid or he is lying to the American people. Take your pick.

Americans do know this about Trump. When it come to military operations, the President should keep his mouth shut. Trump doesn't even know that, and the enemy is listening to every word.

Trump is dangerous. As the President, he doesn't even know when to keep his mouth shut!

Technically speaking, the war in Iraq lasted all but a few short weeks.

It was the occupation and subsequent nation-building misadventure that went on for another eight years.
 

Trump has always been vocal about Iran not getting nuclear weapons.
 
They'll be upset for 24-48 hours, then they'll go right back to worshipping him.
 


America has yet to wisen to the fact the USA is already in a war.

I agree with this. Trump and Republicans aren’t even hiding their end of it anymore.

A war won't help Trump....many of us won't care what happens in a war between the U.S. and Iran.

It's like Nazi Germany vs Stalinist Russia....there are no good guys in this war.
 
Many people think this is what Bush Jr. did when we went into Iraq as he seemed to be losing the country at the time. Cheney said the country will not want to change leaders in the middle of a war.
