Trump leans into off-the-wall race-baiting in remarks about American suburbs as Biden's electoral fortunes rise

President Donald Trump has become reliant on decades-old racist tropes in a feeble attempt to bolster support for his campaign, as presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden continues to rise in the polls. In a press conference on Wednesday, the president railed against fair-housing regulations, labeling such a policy an "invasion" in the American suburbs, and saying this "invasion" would happen if Biden and newly-selected running mate Kamala Harris were elected. "They're going to destroy suburbia. And just so you understand, 30+% of people living in suburbia are minorities — African American, Asian American, Hispanic American," Trump said during the press conference. In a tweet earlier Wednesday, Trump also asserted that the "suburban housewife" will vote for him because "they want safety & are thrilled that I ended the long running program where low income housing would invade their neighborhood.

Trump is doing his best to channel the racist governor of segregated 1060's Alabama George Wallace.

What Trump in effect is betting is that today's white suburban voter is as racist as Trump.

Donald Trump and his father Fred Trump were sued by the US federal government during the 1970's for housing discrimination.

That is the racist world Donald Trump still inhabits.

once George Wallace flip flopped (he wasn't always the racist he became politically) it paid HUGE dividends for him.

Trump is trying the same strategy.

It also got him shot and paralyzed for the rest of his life.

White liberals are absolutely against low income housing being built in their suburbs.

Progressive cities are extremely segregated for a reason, and that reason is because white liberals will not live next to black and brown people. The term "white flight" describes white liberals leaving democratic cities for the suburbs.

This is nothing knew by the way. In 1966 the folk singer and socialist Phil Ochs wrote a song regarding the white liberal hypocrite. Skip to 2:05 where he sings about white liberals living next door to black and brown people:

weird because at my HOA meetings it’s the white conservatives who rant about proposals to build low income housing. Also, Trump is declaring that electing Biden means low-income housing “abolishing” the suburbs.

The trouble for Wallace was that it only worked in the South. It might still work there but times have changed things everywhere.

I wouldn't want poor white or black people moving into my area. This is why I paid up to be were I'm at. There is a huge difference when going to a Walmart in the west valley compared to the east valley. I try to stay out of Walmarts in general.

Trump is fear-mongering for votes. Playing the race card. Nothing more.

Not to mention the fact the Trump already has the racist vote sewed up. He is preaching to the choir again.

He figures there are more deplorables in the woodwork that haven't been voting. He's trying to bring them into the fold.
