Egypt postpones UN security council vote on critical resolution after Israeli PM asks Trump’s transition team for help


Donald Trump appears to have intervened with two foreign governments in a move aimed at sidelining Barack Obama over a UN security council resolution criticising Israel’s settlements.

New Zealand, Venezuela, Malaysia, and Senegal – all currently non-veto-wielding members of the security council, have warned Egypt that if it does not clarify by midnight on Friday whether it plans to call a vote, they reserve the right to move ahead with the text.​

More information in the link above. Color me shocked, Trump grandstanding and using Israel as a cudgel with which to inflate his own ego. Obama really needs to come out strong against Trump on his way out. This is childish petulance and geopolitical ineptitude on full display.
 

Trump is improving the world even though he's not in the executive office. Obama is a weak and feckless coward.

Unlike obama trump has a strong support for Israel.

Could someone explain this to the restavus during Festavus? I'm not understanding how Trump interfered? With a Tweet? A phone call? What did he do?
 

I a bit confused. If Trump was asked to intervene, how would that be grandstanding. Wouldn't grandstanding be that he did something on his own?

If Trump really supported Israel he wouldn't disrespect it by treating it as little more than a political football to grandstand and make himself look big and strong standing up to the "Big Bad Obama". But, don't let me ruin your reality-box. :thumbs:

He whined to the Egyptian president that Obama was getting away with something at the UN via phone-call.
 
The Israeli's can't turn to Obama because he's an anti-Semite and possibly a Muslim.
 

Israel reached out to Trump. How is it grandstanding? If I call a firefighter to put out a fire is the Firefighter grandstanding? If I call poison control because a toddler ingests a bunch of pills, are the EMT's grandstanding?

He called the Egyptian president on his own accord. Netanyahu was being Netanyahu, Trump was just taking advantage of Netanyahu's ideology to whack Obama using Israel as a political football to increase name recognition at the UN.

If you're going to use that analogy, you need to be correct. In this instance, if Trump is the firefighter, then he knows there is no fire yet tells you there is a fire anyway to increase his ego and gloat about saving you from a fire that never existed in the first place.

He wasn't working on anything and had planned on allowing a resolution that has been the US Ppolicy to oppose
To go into effect. Israel asked trump team to do something about it.

It was israel that called trump because the obama administration was going to do nothing.

I'm with you, Maggie, I have no idea what is going on. First, the headline says intervened, the first sentence says may have intervened. The rest of the article is just as vague.

Apparently, though, non President Trump has the ear of the world and can change history with just a couple of phone calls. So we are getting our respect back.

Trump promises that he'll withhold funding from sanctuary cities.

Obama is a weak and feckless coward and an ineffectual president who will forever be remembered as an anti-American corporatists who armed terrorists in Syria in an attempt to overthrow the legitimate government there. Thank God RUSSIA, IRAN and TURKEY negotiated a peace treaty to put a stop to the war in Syria which was fueled by Obama's support for Islamic terrorists. Russia, Iran, and Turkey will now take center stage as world leaders in peace and justice.

I'm not the one who's whining here, though. Trump is. And he's whining because he's making a fool of himself over nothing. The UN resolution does nothing more than condemn the Israeli settlements. It does nothing to harm or threaten Israel. Of course, this is predicated upon Trump's (well-known) bigotry against Muslims. Trump doesn't give a **** about Israel. You're grasping at straws. If Trump really cares about Israel, and if this were really a "bad move" by Obama or "treating Israel like crap" (as you falsely claim), then Trump should, in theory, just have to sit back and watch Obama destroy himself. Of course, this is not true, so Trump is trying to stop Obama from making a historically-good move and cement his legacy, which is actually quite extraordinary.

Kick and scream all you want, Trump and his supporters will be the red-headed step-children of History.

He even went as far as to snub Netanyahu several times.
