This is the United States where all threats of death or other harm to any citizen in this country is a crime no matter what your station in life is, whether you're a floor sweeper on night shift at Walmart or President of the US, it's a crime. Any threats made against the president of the United States is a class E felony. And yes, I agree that threatening death to any election official should carry a heavier sentence only because they are carrying out a responsibility for the entire country.

Under U.S. law 18 U.S.C. § 879, “whoever knowingly and willfully threatens to kill, kidnap, or inflict bodily harm upon” the president or anyone else protected by the Secret Service can be fined, imprisoned for up to five years or get the package deal of a fine plus jail time.
