Trump finally admits COVID-19 is serious problem, just not his problem - Business Insider

President Donald Trump finally acknowledged this week that COVID-19 is a serious problem in the US but stopped short of taking any responsibility for it.

Pundits and major news outlets praised the president's tone as "somber" and said it represented a pivot.

But Trump's tone — which history suggests won't last — doesn't matter because the damage is already done, and it was largely self-inflicted.

As of Thursday, the disease had infected almost 4 million Americans and killed over 143,000 people in the country.

The US economy is also in shambles, and more Americans have died from the virus than in all US battles in every war since 1945.
==============================================================================
Trump could have put a brake on this back in January but I think he failed to understand both the problem & the fix.

Dunno' what to think about this.
The constant repetition of this and similar scenarios suggest many many people were asleep during Jan. Feb. and Mar.
If Al Gore's minions cannot influence nature, why think that one man can stop nature?

Trump should have recognized the problem early on & alerted his Health people, who could have taken charge. He didn't. Now look at the results.

He took action as was possible in January; and was excoriated for it.
Ignoring his admonitions was promoted by his opposition.

He said it was going to disappear. It obviously hasn't with 5M cases.

Odds are, as with any virus, it will disappear, then return; sometimes with regularity sometimes sporadic. CV-19, generally, is here to stay; in time severity will probably be lessened.
The severity at this time is overblown due to media presentation.
Did you really think he could snap his fingers and defeat nature instantaneously?
I don't think you thought that.

But he did, and said so on multiple occasions.

The problem with being American-Centric is that you do not see what the rest of the world does/has done.

The rest of the world also failed to do anything early, except the conniving Chinese that unleashed this on the world, most likely on purpose, and a couple of Asian countries... the rest failed.

What planet is Business Insider living on? Trump JUST "admitted Covid is a big deal"? You have to be ****ting me. He friggin' warned about in his State of the Union Address; he halted inbound travelers from China and Europe in January (while dems like Pelosi and Cuomo mocked him and invited people to come dance with them in the streets. He converted several manufacturer to produce PPE and ventilators.

Utter bull**** thread.

Politics got in the way. Remember back when he was afraid to let some 15 COVID victims off a cruise ship because it would 'throw off his numbers?'

Jack, I'm going to assume you have some decades of life experiences.
He didn't say he would defeat nature.

Ever had children or grandchildren ?
When they were scared and hurt, what did you do ?
Calm the fear with quiet words?
Did you tell them "you'll be okay" ?
and you kept reassuring them until
you made it okay?
I bet you've done that
So did the President .. to the nation

You are still talking about Trump like he was alone in not doing things right... that was my point in the first place.

Lots of world leaders screwed it up.

Why tf would you set the goal as stopping nature?

Why isn't the more appropriate goal influencing what humans do?

Where is your head right now?

Giving up is not an option.
American's don't roll over and quit.

hang on there pard,
ya' don't hear the word quit from me.
I have tired of hearing how nothing was done and, not being done,
it was not being done in a wrong manner. (all kinds of dissonance there)
and blaming one person for not stopping a virus.. which is a force of nature.
therein lies my comparison/tie in to stopping nature..
have a nice evening Simon

i guess that firing the pandemic response team, defunding Predict, pretending that it wasn't happening, convincing his duped followers to not follow basic precautions, pulling out of the WHO, and then interfering with the CDC were poor ideas. no one could have called that in advance, except anyone with a ****ing brain.

Biden called it back in January. “My policies will always uphold science, not fiction.” At the same time Biden also told us why Trump would fail. “Trump’s demonstrated failures of judgment and his repeated rejection of science make him the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health challenge.”

He got some things right. Agreed.

But when it was obvious this was going to be a massive crap-show....he failed to have any cohesive messaging with his epidemiologists. He could have had a real Presidential -good for the country moment....instead we got flagrant opposition to Fauci (#FIREFAUCI)

Not sure about that.. Fauci said the President has done everything Fauci suggested. It's easy, retrospectively, to say something should have been better accomplished.. that is, for someone else to do better. First, one should ask "how would (could/should) I do it better ? " Then, the answer gets tougher to specifically answer.
Thanks for the polite response; have a pleasant night Y2L

He did everything he suggested?

Hmmm...

How accurate cohesive messaging. The absence of which was palpable. #firefauci

we argue with people who support a President who does THAT ^

we can't win debates with people who support that kind of stupidity. all we can do is vote them out.
