Trump exiting Paris accord will harm US economy – LSE research

The harm cause from joining the Paris accord, has nothing to do with the Koch brothers,
is is simply the funds that will exit the US, and provide no return value.
The harm comes from not joining the Paris accord

Exiting the Paris Accord will hurt the US economy.

"Withdrawing from the Paris agreement does not make economic sense for the US, a group of economists has argued, as the cost of clean energy has fallen since the agreement was signed in 2015, while the risks of climate catastrophe have increased.

Economists from the Grantham Institute for Climate Change at the London School of Economics examined the economic case for the US withdrawal, which President Donald Trump signalled in June 2017, and which will take effect on 4 November, the day after this year’s presidential election.

They found that climate breakdown would cause growing losses to US infrastructure and property, and impede the rate of economic growth this century, and that an increasing proportion of the carbon emissions causing global heating would come from countries outside the US. That gives the US a vested interest in whether the Paris agreement succeeds or fails, regardless of whether the US fulfils its own voluntary obligations under the accord."

That renewables are starting to out compete fossil fuels all across the world leading to great economic opportunities.

Plunging Renewable Energy Prices Mean U.S. Can Hit 90% Clean Electricity By 2035 - At No Extra Cost

Why Energy Storage Is Proving Even More Disruptive Than Cheap Renewables

There also just the health benefits from reduction in air pollution alone outweigh the cost of the Paris Accord.

Health benefits far outweigh the costs of meeting climate change goals

How does not agreeing to the Paris accord, which would have the U.S. restrict itself while China is allowed to "maybe" take preventative measures in 2030 (that's 10 years away, in case you're counting) and then pay out a bunch of money to other nations help the U.S. economy?

Uh huhk that is what the various so called 'libertarian think tanks' claim.. funded by exxon moble and the koch brothers. (well charles at least. David's heir is getting out of politics)

Even if the Paris Accord were to be executed in full by every signatory state the result in 2100 would be miniscule. It is a recipe for feckless waste of resources better targeted on real problems.

Yes, I am sure that you are repeating the propganda you were told from the heritiage foundation on that.

Bjorn Lomborg, actually.

Paris climate promises will reduce temperatures by just 0.05 ...

A new peer-reviewed paper by Dr. Bjorn Lomborg published in the Global ... The climate impact of all Paris INDC promises is minuscule: if we measure ... Union exceeded the entire promised reductions, leaving the treaty essentially toothless.

So are you saying that the Paris Accord does NOT include the US paying any funds into the climate Fund?
We should also consider that US emissions are doing better than most European countries that did sign the Paris accord.
Under the emissions portion of the agreement, the US would commit to cutting emissions to 17% below the 2005 level by 2020, and
26 to 28% below the 2005 level by 2025.
Paris agreement
The 2005 level is shown as 6,200 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent.
17 % lower would be 5,146 million metric tons of CO2.
EIA US Emissions
"The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that in 2017, the United States emitted 5.1 billion metric tons of energy-related carbon dioxide"
So by 2017, we were already below the 2020 target!
EIA 2019
"U.S. energy-related carbon dioxide fell by 2.8% in 2019, slightly below 2017 levels"
And 2019 was below 2017 by 2.8%!

It comes down to actual climate sensitivity to added CO2.
If the climate is not very sensitive to added CO2, changing the emission levels change nothing.
Say for example that the warming from added CO2 continues as it has for the total observed greenhouse effect, (~33C with 20% from CO2).
This would mean that Each doubling of CO2, will create at most .82C of warming, and while there are feedbacks, they are negative,
bringing the 2XCO2 forcing warming of 1.1C down to a 2XCO2 equalization of .82 C.
Human activity has the potential of perhaps 2 more doubling s of CO2, but only if we really try.
Technological development keeps making our systems more efficient, and I see no reason why the trend will not continue.
Hydrocarbon energy storage can solve the poor duty cycle/density problems of solar and wind, and Humanity has a sustainable future,
without the Paris Accord and it's added drain of funds.

Not accepting the propogranda from the Koch brothers is not harming the U.S.

There young Republicans and local Republicans politicians are also ignoring the propaganda.

There renewable energy also can offer a lot of opportunities for rural Republican states.

There you also are seeing a rapid transiton towards renewable energy all across the world. With for example Denmark getting 64 percent of their electricity from wind and solar power alone and that 60 percent of new cars are pure electric in Norway.
