Trump demands 'down payment' on wall as shutdown impasse continues

What legislation could congress pass to make Mexico pay for the wall?

Trump suggested a number of things. I'll give you just one of them:

Tax remittances that come from illegal aliens.

There are preliminary reports that Trump will sign a CR to reopen the government for 3 weeks, with no strings attached. Maybe Trump finally figured out that this is not going well for him.

Maybe.

You mean he's going to "cave in to the **S*O*C*I*A*L*I*S*T*S**?!?!?!?!?

Unbelievable (and I do know what the word means)!

Perfect, he has spent his life bragging about the billions of dollars he has. If he considers this so important for his country, he can build the wall himself. I know I would do it for Canada.

Mr. Trump's net worth is down around 31.11% from what it was in 2015.

BUT, he could pay for the entire $2.5 billion "First Stage" himself and could likely raise the remaining $25+ billion on "Go-Fund-Me" if his supporters would only pledge $1.00 per day for one year each. However, since the first effort didn't even reach the $0.18 per supporter per day per year (it actually only got to around $0.018), I don't think that anyone who could manage a casino that didn't go broke would try to do that.

He has that authority: The National Emergencies Act

50 U.S. Code § 1631 - Declaration of national emergency by Executive order; authority; publication in Federal Register; transmittal to Congress

When the President declares a national emergency, no powers or authorities made available by statute for use in the event of an emergency shall be exercised unless and until the President specifies the provisions of law under which he proposes that he, or other officers will act. Such specification may be made either in the declaration of a national emergency, or by one or more contemporaneous or subsequent Executive orders published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.
(emphasis added)

"Strike ONE!"

Eventually...

"Forget it. You are wasting the country's time. I'll build it without you."

And still not even a harsh word for employers.

Haven't you realized you're being played yet?

Do you think all those donors who like cheap labor and wage depression are really gonna let you **** up that sweet deal?

Their bought and paid for congressscritters are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.

Just sayin'.

What legislation could congress pass to make Mexico pay for the wall?

Congress could well pass "The Real Ultimate Mexican Pay-up" Act that consists of three clauses, and those clauses would be:

  1. Mexico will pay to construct a wall between the United States of America and Mexico.
  2. If Mexico doesn't pay to construct a wall between the United States of America and Mexico, Donald John Trump will hold his breath until his face turns blue and/or the American taxpayers will pay to construct a wall between the United States of America and Mexico, the bill for which will be sent to the government of Mexico with a demand that it be paid immediately.
  3. If Mexico does not pay the bill sent to it for payment immediately upon presentation the United States of America shall take and sell such parts of Mexico as are sufficient to pay that bill plus whatever costs are associated with that taking and sale.

Trump suggested a number of things. I'll give you just one of them:

Tax remittances that come from illegal aliens.

Exactly how are you going to determine that those remittances "come from illegal aliens"?

Are you going to tax ALL money that leaves the United States of America?

Trump demands 'down payment' on wall as shutdown impasse continues

U.S. senators made a new try at ending a partial month-long government shutdown through a temporary funding bill on Thursday, but President Donald Trump demanded a "down payment" for a border wall that Democrats reject.

After the Republican-led Senate failed to advance two measures to reopen shuttered agencies, Democratic and Republican lawmakers spoke on the Senate floor and urged quick passage of a three-week, stopgap funding bill to create time for talks on border security.

White House
spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said such a measure would only work "if there is a large down payment on the wall."

But a spokesman for Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Senate Democrats had made clear to Republicans that "they will not support funding for the wall."

Trump
, who sparked the shutdown, now in its 34th day, with his demand for $5.7 billion in funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall, told reporters after the votes in the Senate: “We have no choice but to have a wall or a barrier, and if we don’t have that, it’s just not going to work,” referring to border security.

COMMENT:-

It seems that the negotiations are running along the lines of:

Step 1 - "Give me $25,000,000,000+." - "No."
Step 2 - "Give me $15,000,000,000+." - "No."
Step 3 - "Give me $5,000,000,000+." - "No."
Step 4 - "Give me $2,500,000,000+." - "No."
Step 5 - "Give me a 'down payment'." - "No."
Step 6 - "Make a deposit." - "No."
Step 7 - "Put us a couple of bucks for 'earnest money'." - "No."
Step 8 - "I never promised to build a wall." - "No?"
Step 9 - "Wall? What wall?" - "That's what we said 'What wall?'."

or something like that.

I hope he declares an emergency and finances it through the military.

I don't think Wilbur Ross's 'let them eat cake' comments did the Republicans any good either..lol

Having yet another billionaire Republican being out of touch with the working class, and telling them how to feed their families, wasn't 'helpful'..

I read stuff like this and I can NOT understand how any Middle Class/Working Class people can vote Republican. Trump's a billionaire elitist from Manhattan who craps in gold plated toilets. Ross hasn't an F'ing clue about living paycheck to paycheck.. I mean, My God!! How can Middle Class Republicans be so clueless?

Dude...that's a detail. Don't worry, he has people who will dot the i's and cross the t's.

And that is irrelevant to what we are talking about...which is building the wall.

Moving on...

Seriously? You can't think of ANY way to do that?

No need to tax all the money going out. Just require the conduit...such as Western Union...to ensure and record the status of the person sending the money. If the person is illegal, no problem...send the money, but deduct the tax and send it to the government.

And yeah...we would need to spot check. Maybe a lot, at first. Punish violators...harshly.

This isn't rocket science.

What Trump got in return for his shutdown tantrum..................

And that is irrelevant to what we are talking about...which is building the wall.

Moving on...

Utterly relevant.

If its a ****ing emergency then use the laws and tools we ALREADY HAVE to address the issue.

Make it a "hire illegals and be bankrupted" situation. Give a little time to for adjustment. Start small to get the word out.

Start TOMORROW. That IS in his purview. He is SUPPOSED to enforce the law.

What "emergency" is dealt with with a years long project?

Emergencies demand immediate solutions.

If you're drowning you need a life preserver NOW, not years from now.

The laws, as they are now, are inadequate. They need to be stiffened. And guess what...that requires Congress because Trump can't make up his own laws and penalties.

Do you honestly think Congress is going to rush to pass laws just because Trump wants them? LOL!!

I hope he declares an emergency and finances it through the military.

Which would mean, of course, that "The Wall" wouldn't cost a dime.

Of course, the American taxpayer would have to pay the extra costs associated with replacing all of the money diverted out of "the military" to pay for "The Wall" - but that's not the same thing as paying for "The Wall", is it?

Ross hasn't an F'ing clue about living paycheck to paycheck.. I mean, My God!! How can Middle Class Republicans be so clueless?

Mr. Ross most certainly does have a clue about living paycheque to paycheque, it's just that his weekly paycheque (2017 figures) is $900,000.00 rather than the (approximately) $1,135.37 that the average American earns per week. That means that Mr. Ross' "issues" with living from paycheque to paycheque are almost 800 times as great as the "average American" has.

LOL!!

Dude...that's a detail. Don't worry, he has people who will dot the i's and cross the t's.

Indeed, the law is "just a detail" and it's thinking like that that has enabled Mr. Trump to surround himself with the best crossers of "I"s and dotters of "T"s in the country.

Seriously? You can't think of ANY way to do that?

This isn't rocket science.

You know that "record the status of the person sending the money" would work really well, since absolutely no one would think of using a person (other than themselves) to send money to a country other than Mexico from which it would be forwarded to a recipient in Mexico.

You wouldn't need to "spot check" you'd have to check 100% of the transactions.

PS - Did you know that it is actually legal to physically carry money across the US border?

PPS - Did you know that it is actually legal to physically ship money across the US border?

What Trump got in return for his shutdown tantrum..................

Now that's NOT TRUE!

Mr. Trump forced the Democrats to reopen the government and in return the Democrats gave him "The Stone Wall".

Any idiot can see that that was a YUGE WIN for Mr. Trump.

I don't care how it gets paid for. Never did. Just build it.

Indeed, the law is "just a detail" and it's thinking like that that has enabled Mr. Trump to surround himself with the best crossers of "I"s and dotters of "T"s in the country.

shrug...

You seem to think that detail will stop Trump. I'm telling you it won't.

You know that "record the status of the person sending the money" would work really well, since absolutely no one would think of using a person (other than themselves) to send money to a country other than Mexico from which it would be forwarded to a recipient in Mexico.

Who says the restriction would be limited to Mexico?

As far as using someone else, I addressed that: "violators".

You wouldn't need to "spot check" you'd have to check 100% of the transactions.

As I said, "Maybe a lot, at first."

PS - Did you know that it is actually legal to physically carry money across the US border?

PPS - Did you know that it is actually legal to physically ship money across the US border?

A law could make it illegal to do so on behalf of an illegal alien...and, if an illegal alien wants to do it himself, go ahead. He might have a problem returning, so it'll be a one-way trip.

Look. The only thing stopping the US from forcing Mexico to pay for the wall is Congressmen who don't want to do that.

Can someone tell the dummy that his mom (Pelosi) won't fall for his bluffs and tantrums?
