Trump confides to friends he's concerned about impeachment

... now that the Dems took control of Congress

Since the Democrats have a majority in ONLY the House of Representatives while the Republicans have the majority in the Senate, isn't it just as correct to say that "the Republicans have control of Congress"?

After all, if you define "control" as "can reliably get legislation passed" then the Democrats DO NOT have that ability and thus DO NOT "control Congress".

Now if you define "control" as "can reliably PREVENT legislation being passed" then BOTH the Democrats AND the Republicans DO have that ability and thus DO "control Congress".

I cannot recall the source (or even when I first heard it), but I do recall a quote along the lines of:

The mechanism of the American government was designed to rein in a naturally fractious people while the mechanism of the Canadian government was designed to spur on a naturally phlegmatic one.

and, if that is, indeed, the case, then both governmental mechanisms are functioning as "Originally Intended" - wouldn't you say?

Now that's easy

OK. If I grant you that the vast majority of "Republicans" (whatever that means) DO NOT think that bloviating, narcissistic, self-centred, egotistical, hubristic, dishonest, ignorant, capricious, unreliable, people should be elected to public office, will you please tell me WHY THEY VOTE FOR THEM?
Cant say for sure but I do have s theory.

The right has tried being passive (with a few excrptions) and it has done nothing to tone things down. 2026 they decided they wanted someone more aggressive to represent their interests.

Then they are not true friends.

Someone should get Mr. Trump some of those as he appears to have a dirth of them.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Mr. Kusher was offered the option of:

  1. don't testify (and provide substantiating evidence for your testimony and lose everything you own; or
  2. testify and receive a fine that you can easily afford;

that he would chose Option 1.

The same goes for every member of "Team Trump" - right on up to the captain of the team.

Yep, I am sure they are telling you that over at InfoWars, where they have gullible people for lunch.

Interesting that we have a president with a track record of over 6000 lies yet people believe him over major news organizations that fact check and double fact check.

Liars call others liars because others speak the truth, exposing the lies. Too many Americans seem determined to unquestionably believe what they are told by their lying party members and propagandists.

....and others believe the lies they read in their political porn sites like InfoWars, Breitbart, Daily Caller, WND and Conservative Tribune. Most of those people think they are uniquely enlightened when they really are just helplessly lost in their ignorance.

It is almost impossible to have political discourse these days.

When the parties can't even agree on what is factual, where do you start?

Which, of course is exactly the same thing as "Liars call others liars because others speak the truth, exposing the lies. Too many Americans seem determined to unquestionably believe what they are told by their lying party members and propagandists." - isn't it?

The only difference between those who instinctively believe what "The Lying Left" says and those who instinctively believe what "The Lying Right" says is the colour of their ball cap.

These days "political discourse" is definable as "I don't care a flying fig what you say or what the actual evidence is - my favourite talking head has told me what I have to believe and that is what I am going to believe and anyone who doesn't believe exactly the same thing is **E*V*I*L**!!!".

Where do lefties go to find out where the Steele dossier came from? Who the hell knows? Lefties remain notoriously ignorant about so many important facts and details of current events and issues.

Well, I don't care where you get you news, but if you are going to "debate" it, you should be able to back up your assertions with news sources from the grey area below or academic studies.

The problem is that there is a market for political porn --- sites that tell you stuff that you want to hear that just isn't true. These sites pretty much play into people's fantasies with conspiracies and flimsy reporting. These cites are the actual purveyors of fake news, projecting their deficiencies on to newspapers of established international reputation that actually have rigorous processes for discovering and disseminating news. Because of the power of these political porn sites over their readers, most of whom do not wander to far away from the influence of these sites, they perpetuate ignorance and promote anger, making them existential threats to our democracy.

There are way too many posters on DP that clearly read this stuff and believe it. They are reasonably obvious as 1) the assertion in their post is obviously askew from conventional wisdom and 2) when you ask them to back up their statements they don't, because they know they are going to be called out on the sourcing. I will challenge askewed assertions that are not sourced. I want to know where these people get their skewed ideas and perverted thinking.

Any debate (or court of law) needs rules and foundation. There are facts. There is truth. There must be somethings upon which we can agree and measure, otherwise we have social chaos. In stark contrast to political porn, there actually are news organizations that have high professional standards and proven processes for investigating, analyzing and disseminating news.

The chart below is an excellent analysis of news sources.

You will see what it says about the sources that I called out in previous post. Another excellent third party source of news organization analysis is Media Bias/Fact Check - Search and Learn the Bias of News Media. This rating system not only talks about political lean, but also rates the factual integrity of the organization. The latter, frankly, is more important than the former.

Despite public declarations that he's unconcerned, the president has told people close to him he's alarmed about the prospect of impeachment.

WASHINGTON — Despite President Donald Trump's public declaration that he isn't concerned about impeachment, he has told people close to him in recent days that he is alarmed by the prospect, according to multiple sources.

Trump's fear about the possibility has escalated as the consequences of federal investigations involving his associates and Democratic control of the House sink in, the sources said, and his allies believe maintaining the support of establishment Republicans he bucked to win election is now critical to saving his presidency.
========================================
Surrounded by revelations of his criminality with much more to come, Trump has become concerned about his likely impeachment. With defections among establishment Repub senators & a Dem-controlled House, the possibility is looming large.
Lol...BS...you'll fall for anything wont you...lol

:lamo But I thought he was your savior?????? :lamo

I am pretty sure that we have had conversations about your listening and comprehension skills.....I have a couple of times said "Trump may have just saved America" but that is overwhelmed with the thousands of times that I have talked about how Trump and everything around Trump is proof of Americas decline.

We know trump and the republicans will oppose ANYTHING that the democrats want. So the democrats should introduce legislation in the House that will be popular with millions of poor to middle class Americans. Then when the republicans oppose it and/or trump vetoes it - the democrats will have an excellent campaign tool for the 2020 election.

All they have to do is keep replaying the bits where trump and the republicans oppose legislation that will BENEFIT the poor and middle class. Lets see how the republicans spin that in their favour.

They plan to introduce Medicare for all, and higher top tax brackets, as well as keeping DACA people on the string for 2020.

We have Maxine Waters in the House Financial Services Committee -, Considering her record and documented history of poor ethical and moral fitness, which has jurisdiction over the country’s banking system, economy, housing, and insurance. It also has jurisdiction over monetary policy, international finance, and efforts to combat terrorist financing. I wonder if she can eliminate the Border Patrol and ICE budgets?

And the media will blame Trump. It's a win-win for the real owners of the country.

She would be a fine candidate in 2020.

Go with facts and verification. If one side weasels when asked for logical explanations then that side is weak and likely wrong. Propaganda and biased talking points are no substitute for facts, logic, verification and persuasion.

I don't believe any of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding......great chart. Thanks.

It is painful to watch the President continuously call reporting from sources in the green box "fake news". It damages the country in ways that we may never completely recover from.

Good advice,. Let me be the first to applaud you for stating that you want to raise the standards for yourself.

I, for one, have never seen you back up any of your assertions with 3rd party evidence, yet you seem quite liberal in posting assertions that often seem askew. We would welcome your commitment to defending your statements by showing us their sourcing.
