Trump cancels Pelosi trip to Belgium, Afghanistan and Egypt

She has access to a smaller aircraft due to her position in the presidential succession. It's not big enough to transport her delegation, to Belgium and beyond.

There is no end to the right making excuses for their rather obvious hypocrisy.

Checkmate
Check comes from a Persian phrase 'shah' (king) where 'shah mata / shah mat' meant 'the king is dead' or 'the king is helpless'. I believe this is actually the Persian gameplay terminology over 1000 years ago before Europeans really caught onto it. – Garet Claborn May 18 '11 at 5:07

Interestingly, that became "scacco matto" in Italian... although matto means mad in Italian! – nico May 18 '11 at 6:09

In Swedish, it's "schack matt", which is pretty close to the original. Cool. (Chess is actually called Schack, fwiw..) – Macke May 18 '11 at 11:52

I find the etymology at word origins (the nicer description) questionable because of the reference to Vulgar Latin. It says check < eschequier (Old French) < eschec < scaccus (Vulgar Latin) < shah (Arabic) < shah (Persian). I don't know what scaccus means exactly (does the '' means it is reconstructed but not extant?), but Vulgar Latin is the name of the colloquial Latin at the time of the Roman Empire ... did the game of chess even exist then, and were there borrowings from Arabic at that time? – Mitch May 18 '11 at 14:31

In other words, Pelosi bit off more than she could chew in this case. Better she swallow her pride and come to the table. It will only get worse from here on. Democrats are losing this political war on all sides.

WTF is that gibberish? Looks like a feeble pretzlized attempt to excuse the presidents ignorance.

Please prove with fact your accusation. What criminal activity has been proven. It's all innuendo and lies. Hmm..., people like you refer to the Constitution and don't even know te first thing about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. You slept through the course in the 6th grade and quit school right after that.

Funny how with HRC its's 'lock her up' without even charges, yet where's the proof of trump's obvious criminality.

This scum makes HRC look like Mary Poppins.

Her job is not diplomatic relations. She shouldn't be meeting with Nato to reassure them of anything - especially with her track record.

You could make an argument for supporting the troops - but even then, that's not really her job.

Her number one job is to resolve the budget issue. Without question. Making a bunch of far flung trips isn't going to help that. She needs to be there.

The house has resolved the budget issue, the repubs in senate will not vote on the same CR passed 100-0 previously before the new congress.

So who is it that's not doing their job ?

Why did 6 repub senators go to Moscow 7/4/18 of all days ? Foreign policy is not their job either. I know why...

to launder some more million$ of their ill-gotten gains. They let trump get away with it, so they are jumping on that train.

It's closed because she's unwilling to negotiate or compromise on a very fundamental issue. Right now, that's her number one job, and has been.

The govt, is closed because of republican and trump's intransigence. They refuse to vote on the same CR passed 100-0 previously.

The reasons Pelosi and Schumer are giving for not funding the wall are insulting to anyone with an IQ above room temperature. It's this kind of blatant gaslighting that is a true abuse of power.
We know they supported the border structure- fence, wall-whatever. They are on record. If you go back on listen to Schumer talk about the border, there's very little sunlight between him and Trump. But now we're being told no money for the wall and that it's immoral to build them.

Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. I can take a whole lot of political crap from the swamp critters in D.C., but insulting my intelligence isn't something I can abide by.

Just more partisan tripe.

The house obviously hasn't done their job, as that proposal was rejected - and they knew it would be. Interestingly, that proposal also made it clear that additional spending wasn't the issue.

And I agree - senators shouldn't go on political trips either.

They are demanding that border security be addressed. Our border situation is obviously in crisis, and the public agrees on that. It's silly not to include strengthening the physical barrier as a part of the process.

Granted, it takes two to tango. However, it's obvious that Pelosi and company are more interested in political grandstanding than trying to work anything out.

She wont have to wait long the caravan is in Mexico and heading toward our border unimpeded. 2 more behind it are forming. There should be thousands at our border soon and she can explain to American how cameras and drones will stop them from crossing illegally

Seems to me there was a similar story being told just before the election...and it had no legs.

So, did you also believe in the Great Pumpkin?

Ah, no. Trump's presidency, however, is in, and is a crisis. Most of the public agrees on that. If Trump really wanted the wall, he would have had the wall. This isn't about the wall, its about a President in crisis trying to assert himself. Unfortunately, he is looking for love in all the wrong places.

Then as was the very recent (7/4/18) visit by what was it 6 or 8 repub senators to Moscow.....? Bobble heads ?

They too were seeing govt. officials with whom we have many issues, many...consider an enemy too.

That's what's in the act.

Bill Clinton used to take some girls with him as well when he went on all expenses paid overseas trips.

Absolutely.

Of course, she could easily resolve this if she wanted to. $5B is not enough to hold up negotiations over - especially for Pelosi. It's all political posturing for her. They should lock Pelosi and Trump in a conference room until one blinks.

How many times does it have to be pointed out that there will be no negotiations about wall money while the govt. is shut? It is not a merely political point, it relates to a President who is claiming absolute power over a co-equal branch of the Govt. The precedent will not be made.

The ball is in Trumps court, He knows what he has to do to get Nancy to negotiate. It's been plain as day from the start. Speaker of the House is the 3rd most powerful figure in our Govt. So yes reassuring our allies is most certainly part of her job. It is amusing to see how little many of you understand about your own Govt. or is it that you want to give it all up to save your orange god? That is a bit spooky.

Sounds like you may need to learn a bit about how our government works. The speaker is third in line of succession, but that doesn't make her the 'third most powerful person in the government'. She leads the house, and they have a job to do,.

The executive branch is responsible for representing our country to other countries. The speaker and members of congress may take an unofficial role in that, but it's not their job or in their authority.

You can't keep ignoring this forever. Trumps latest felony is that he asked Cohen to lie to Congress about his Trump Tower Moscow project. That is actually multiple felonies. Let see how many you can name., Professor.

First it's ha said, secondly until Trump is indicted by a grand jury, tried and convicted it's all hearsay. It's already been established by the Mueller investigation and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York that Cohen has been uncooperative and has lied.

Trump doesn't even know what 3D chess is and is just tripe anyway.

A man with steel balls that can't do anything while Putin is up his.....

However, Pelosi knows she is dealing with a child, whoremonger, serial adulterer con man,

Russian money laundering, greedy, capitalist, criminal scum whose price to the GOP...will be its extinction.

:lamo You just described Barack Hussein Obama. Pres. Trump has done more to paint Putin into a corner than BO did on any day or for the 8 years he was president. His own words and actions on the Ukraine and Syria show us that. Nice try but your messiah's words and actions prove you wrong.

This does not come from Cohen, he is just cooberating this crime. Hard evidence is not "hearsay". Trump must be impeached for this crime not indicted. You well know that Presidents are not indicted no matter how outrageous the crime they are accused of.

Ok Then give me a link to even one example of Trump saying a single bad word about Putin. Just one.

How, exactly, is pointing out she has a plane at her disposal "making excuses"?

But now the enemy would know she and her delegation is coming on a commercial fight into a war zone without any military escort. Would that be wise?
No, but then again, this is the woman that tried to pull a petty power move by pulling the rug out from under the SOTU. Wisdom isn't her strong suit.
