This becomes all the more important when we consider that a good 50% of Americans despise CNN so fiercely that the network's endorsement of a strategy is the surest way to build public resistance to that strategy.

That political capital can then be spent selling a narrative--the "what you should think" that accompanies the "what". But political capital must be earned before it's spent. The problem with many networks, including CNN, is they've lost sight of this reality. They have virtually no political capital left, and the harder they try to spend what little they have, the harder they make it to earn new capital.

As I said to George, CNN has pushed so hard against Pres. Trump's administration that their condemnation is a political asset to him. Perhaps the greatest political asset he has. Which is of course one of the reasons he loves to badmouth them in return.
